Missing Drivers SM Bus controller & PCI Simple Communications Controller

I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop. Been almost 5-6 years. recently I installed it with a new SSD and installed Windows 10 Home edition.

1. Is it possible to install all Toshiba Drivers as the original , if so how can we do the same?

2. In device manager  SM Bus controller & PCI Simple Communications Controller , shows that no drivers have been installed , is there a solution for the same?

Don't worry about it. As Al mentioned, it happens all the time. We are just whining.

Ok, you have a 4th gen processor and thus an 8 Series chipset. Here are links to packages you can use to resolve these items:

  1. Download the Chipset Device Software package. Here is version you can use:

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26655.

  2. Extract this package to a temporary folder.
  3. Open a Command Window and CD to this temporary folder.
  4. Run command ".\SetupChipset.exe /overall".
  5. Reboot.
  6. Download and run the Intel Management Engine Consumer Driver package. Here is version you can use: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26147.
  7. Reboot.

The two items should be resolved at this point.

What does this have to do with a NUC Element? Why can't people read the instructions and post their questions in the proper forum? I rant...

It is important to ensure that, before installing anything else, you install the Chipset Device Software (a.k.a. INF Update) package. This will resolve the SMBus driver issue.

As for the PCI Simple Communications Controller, this is actually the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI), the device that supports software running on the main processor communicating with firmware running on the Intel Management Engine. You need to install the Intel Management Engine software package in order to resolve this entry.

In either case, I need more information about your laptop (what processor is used) to determine what versions of these packages/drivers you need to install.

"What does this have to do with a NUC Element? "

I was wondering that myself.  But, my new medications have increased my tolerance to these types of posts.<G>

Hi Scott,

Thank you for that and it worked and the two issues were solved. but now i see that the blue tooth device shows an yellow exclamation mark against  Generic Bluetooth Adapter. I tried to update the driver but it comes back. Is there any suggestion?

Thank you once again for the help in sorting the other errors

Thank you

Hi Scott
I have another laptop which shows Intel Core i5-6200 CPU @ 2.30Ghz 2.40 GHz
There under other devices many of the items have an exclamation mark .
Namely
1.PCI Data acquisition and signal processing.
2. PCI Memory Controller
3.SM bus controller
4. & 5. Shown as unknown devices
6. USB2.0-CRW

Would advise which drivers I would need to download

Sorry to trouble you

These should also be satisfied by installing the Chipset Device Software and Intel Management Engine packages supplied for them by that laptop manufacturer.

Hi
Thank you
This is a Dell laptop.
Just to make sure I am doing it right , do I just check in Dell website for these drivers , how do we know which chipset I am using on the laptop?

Thank you

Their search engine should find it by laptop model, so you don't have to know this information.

It is not necessarily this simple. You may need to uninstall the existing Wireless and Bluetooth drivers and then install the version on the Dell site.

I would use this general process:

  1. Download (but do not install just yet) the Wireless and Bluetooth drivers from the Dell site.
  2. Disconnect the laptop from the Internet. Unplug any Ethernet cable and disable Wireless and Bluetooth completely. Keep the laptop disconnected from the Internet for the duration of this process.
  3. Uninstall the existing Wireless and Bluetooth drivers and all associated software.
  4. Reboot, keeping laptop disconnected from the Internet.
  5. Install the Wireless and Bluetooth package you downloaded in Step 1.
  6. Reboot.
  7. Reconnect the laptop to the Internet.
  8. Test.

Hope this helps,

What link?  And, it does say "temporarily unavailable".

And, do not forget, it is still holiday for Intel.

Unfortunately, the people needed to fix this server issue are likely not available until tomorrow (Tuesday, PST).
