The number one reason for hangs like this is bad memory. I suggest that you get a different set of SODIMMs to try...

Not necessarily; the address ranges used by Windows and by the BIOS are completely separate.

Reinstall the latest BIOS using the BIOS Recovery method. Then test for this again.

Instructions are supposed to be here: Intel NUC BIOS Recovery Update Instructions. It appears that they are not for some reason. I will attempt to get it addressed.

For now, here are my step-by-step instructions for BIOS Recovery. These were written for the older Desktop Board products, but should work on the NUCs as well.

  1. NOTE: Read these instructions completely before starting.
  2. On some other Windows-based PC, download the .BIO file for the BIOS release you wish to install.
  3. Insert a 32GB or smaller USB 2.0 flash drive into the PC. Do not use USB 3.0 flash drives.
  4. Format this USB flash drive using the Windows Format applet. Select to install the FAT32 file system (NOT vFAT, NOT exFAT; FAT32 only). You must also specify that the Quick Format option be Disabled (unchecked).
  5. Copy the .BIO file you downloaded into the root folder of this USB flash drive. This should be the only .BIO file on this USB flash drive.
  6. Properly eject the USB flash drive. Do not just yank it out. Do this from File Explorer or using the Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media System Tray applet.
  7. Power off the Desktop Board system.
  8. Remove the yellow BIOS Configuration jumper from the board. It will be the only yellow jumper; the rest will usually be black.
  9. NOTE: Remember the pins that this jumper was plugged into; you will need this information later.
  10. Plug the USB flash drive into one of the black USB 2.0 ports on the back panel of the board. Do not use blue or yellow USB 3.0 port. Do not use any front panel USB ports.
  11. Power on the system.
  12. The BIOS Recovery process should start automatically. You should see a progress report on your main monitor.
  13. NOTE: If you do not see a progress report displayed on a monitor, do not power off the system for at least 15 minutes. While it is rare, it is possible for the process to proceed without an onscreen display; you must give it ample time to complete, just in case.
  14. When the BIOS Recovery process is complete, you will be asked to power off the system. Do so.
  15. Restore the yellow BIOS Configuration jumper to the pins it was on previously. This should be across pins 1 and 2 of this (three pin) header.
  16. Remove the USB flash drive from the back panel of the board.
  17. Power on the board.
  18. Immediately begin pressing the F2 key, over and over (approx once per second) until you see the BIOS Setup (or Visual BIOS) screen displayed.
  19. Verify, using the BIOS version string, that the BIOS installed properly. Stop if it isn't.
  20. Press the F9 key (followed by the Y key) to reset of the BIOS configuration.
  21. Press the F10 key (followed by the Y key) to save the BIOS Configuration and exit BIOS Setup.
  22. Once screen is cleared (goes black), begin pressing the F2 key, over and over, until you see the BIOS Setup screen displayed.
  23. Make any changes to the BIOS configuration that you desire (for example, disabling NUMLOCK) or that you require (for example, setting Boot Order, enabling UEFI, etc).
  24. Press the F10 key (followed by the Y key) to save the BIOS Configuration and exit BIOS Setup.
  25. Test.

Hope this helps,

  1. I'll give now the instructions how to update your Bios using Recovery Method. After performing this update and setting Bios to default settings, please do not change the default settings in Video configuration (i.e. do not change the IDG Aperture Size and IDG Minimum Memory).
  2. Prepare USB stick fully formatted to FAT32 (disable quick format option during format). Format your USB on Windows machine (rather than Linux or MAC). Save the Bios file JY0053.bio (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/ru/download/29120/BIOS-Update-JYGLKCPX-86A-?product=126137) on this stick and insert it into front USB slot with amber color (NUC shall be OFF). You may use also one of the rear USB ports (do not use front blue USB port, since sometime the USB stick is not recognized during boot process).
  3. Press Power Button for about 3 seconds. Count 1001, 1002, 1003,1004. Release the Power Button. NUC should reboot into Power Button Menu. You should release the Power Button before 4-sec shut down override or when the Power Button LED changes color from blue to amber.
  4. Press F4 and the recovery shall start (it can take up to 30 seconds for messages to appear on the screen).
  5. When the recovery finishes, press on Power Button and hold it, until NUC switches OFF. Pull out the power cord. Remove the USB stick.
  6. Replace the power cord and press Power Button to switch the computer to ON.
  7. Enter Bios setting by pressing F2 during boot process.
  8. Press F9(followed by "Y"), to set Bios to default settings. Press F10 (followed by "Y"), to save the settings and exit to O.S. Let the NUC fully reboot.
  9. If before update, you have customized bios settings, you can enter again to Bios setting to change the necessary settings (however do not change the IDG settings).

  1. You may use the same recovery mode for Bios downgrade. Instead to use the JY0053.bio file you should use thy old JY0050.bio. This is, however difficult to do, since only previous version JY0052.bio is available in Intel download center https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/29065/BIOS-Update-JYGLKCPX-86A- . I don't advise also to download Bios file from unknown sources in internet.
  2. Do the recovery with JY0053.bio and see how it's working. I don't endorse Bios downgrading.

After releasing the Power Button, the NUC should boot into Power Button Menu. Similar to the attached image (taken from other NUC model). One of the items in menu will be F4 Bios Recovery. Then press F4 and the recovery will start. After 2-3 minutes, the recovery finishes. Continue according to paragraphs 5-9 in my post above.

You need to set bios to default settings after recovery. See paragraphs 6-9 in my post above.

  1. After recovery, did you set Bios to default settings?
  2. I would try to replace SODIMM. Can you borrow one? May be from laptop?

  1. Your computer BOXNUC7PJYH is a kit sold without memory, storage and Operating System. The SO DIMM is bought separately and is not covered by Intel warranty.
  2. If you want't you may open in Intel Support Side an request for RAM in order to replace your NUC only (not the memory) https://supporttickets.intel.com/warrantyinfo?lang=ru-RU
  3. You may want to connect by phone to to your closest support center https://www.intel.ru/content/www/ru/ru/support/contact-support/emea-contact.html
  4. You may also go to the place where you bought this NUC and ask to check the computer or to replace the memory module?
