2 db9 connectors on NUC7i5DNHE

Hi,

Anyone knows if I can add 2 serial db9 connectors to NUC7i5DNHE?

From what I can tell, the motherboard has only 1 serial pin header connector (1 row of 10 pins).

There are brackets with 2 db9 connectors that need two 10 pin connectors (2 rows of 5 pins) on the motherboard.

Thanks!

Hi @RTent1

  1. For the first connector you may use Intel NUC RS232 LID for 7th Gen Dawson Canyon NUC. The unit is connected to the Internal USB connector. https://www.gorite.com/intel-nuc-rs232-lid-for-7th-gen-dawson-canyon-nuc
  2. For the second connector, use Serial DB9 Header Cable for NUC Dawson Canyon https://www.gorite.com/serial-db9-header-cable-for-nuc-dawson-canyon

Hello Leon!

Thanks for your answer!

So - to make it clear for me, the lid adapter is actually a db9 to usb dongle? So, in windows I'd be seeing it as an attached usb device?

I was trying to avoid using usb-to-anything dongles as those cause issues from time to time. Especially in a 24/7 environment.

Shame that the motherboard does not support two hardware serial connectors.

Radu

Hi Radu,

  1. I do not use this lid, so I can't say you how it is appearing in Windows.
  2. "Shame that the motherboard does not support two hardware serial connectors". Please to not forget what are the dimensions of this motherboard. RS232 is not widely used any more. Last time I needed it was to connect some monitor for debugging purpose and in other case to connect an old subsystem communicating on RS232 bus.
  3. Hope you will be able to work with this solution.

Regards

Leon
