4th gen NUC + Linux (Ubuntu) + Hi-res monitor?

Jump to solution

Hi all,

I have an Intel NUC (the D34010WYK) and use Ubuntu Linux on it. It works wonderfully and is extremely fast. However, I would like to swap my 1920x1200 monitor for one with even higher resolution. I have read that the latest NUCs support up to 4k resolutions, but I still have some questions about it. The monitor I am considering is 2560x1440 (it's the 27" from Dell, the U2713HM):

1. I understand it's probably best to connect to the monitor with DisplayPort. If I do, will the NUC support 2560x1440 @ 60Hz?

2. Do the Intel drivers (from https://01.org/linuxgraphics/ Intel Linux Graphics drivers) support this scenario as well?

Both the hardware specifications for the NUC as well as the documentation for the Intel Linux Graphics drivers don't clearly answer these questions, so hopefully someone either knows or has experience with this setup. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for joining the NUC community.

The maximum supported resolution is 3840 x 2160 @ 30 Hz, 24bpp, this is via Display Port.

Here is the information about 4k: http://downloadmirror.intel.com/23090/eng/D54250WYB_D34010WYB_TechProdSpec06.pdf http://downloadmirror.intel.com/23090/eng/D54250WYB_D34010WYB_TechProdSpec06.pdf

Please bear in mind that Intel does not test and validate Intel® NUC on Linux, however we know that a lot of NUC owners are using it successfully on many different Linux distros. Intel suggests you check your Linux distro's website and forums at lhttp://www.linux.com/community inux.com for peer assistance with this issue.

Thanks for your response Allan. The document you linked contains a lot of information and has the most details about what is/isn't supported. Anyway, as I wrote I was considering a 2560x1440 monitor and the document lists 2560x1600@60Hz as supported. So for now I'll assume that it's supported!
