Alimentation

Jump to solution

Bonjour

Cordialement

Hi @DNobl ,

1.      In my first NUC - NUC6i5SYH, I got similar problem. When I've applied more force on the Power Button, the NUC started. So, my conclusion was that there is a problem in switch contacts. The switch contacts were oxidized. After removing the board, using Compressed Air Duster, I've cleaned dust from the Thermal Solution.

2.      In the following links, you may find explanation (an example), how to remove board from NUC housing: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Intel+NUC5i7RYH+Disassembly/98011https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwqrfIdyvGw&t=300s

3.      Next, I've sprayed dissent amount of Servisol Super 10 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Servisol-Super-10-Switch-Cleaner-Lubricant-Contact-Cleaner-Mixing-Desk-Stud..., targeting the switch plunger. Since the switch is not hermetically closed, certain quantity of the cleaning solution, penetrated to the switch contacts. Naturally some solution also wetted the board and components near the switch.

4.      You should wait some time (about 15 minutes), till the contacts are cleaned after applying the cleaning solution. So, be patient.

There are all sorts of possibilities, but the most likely are,

  • The Power switch is failing. Does it reliably turn on if you hold the button for, say, a full second? The switch consists of an electrical portion and a mechanical portion. That is, an electrical switch on the board and a mechanical switch on the chassis that, when pressed, presses the electrical switch in turn. In some cases, the alignment of the board in the chassis can make the mechanical contact unreliable. Adjusting the board's position in the chassis might address this. If the problem appears to be in the electrical switch, a good cleaning may help. This involves first trying to clean it as much as you can with a can of compressed air and second trying to clean the switch using solvent (obviously, only a consideration for the technical folks).

  • The Power Supply is failing. No, having the LEDs on the Ethernet socket light is not a reliable indicator of working status; these LEDs can be powered when the system is in the standby state when the Power Supply is providing only a trickle of power.

Hope this helps,

...S
