BIOS 0076 to 0072 Downgrade

Intel has locked my thread on this issue. Why?

NUC7i5BNH BIOS0076 upgrade blows up graphics/display setup

My setup(running already for 8 months+)

TB Port (USBto HDMI Cable)VievSonic 1920 display MAIN DISPLAY HDMI TCL 4K TV

BIOS 72 everything was working normal in particular I had the boot options on both screens i.e, F2 F7 and F10 option during startup.

Installing 76 removed my TB firmware but I have since reinstalled it.

The PC now BOOT's up on HDMI first and I get the Fxx options on the TV but not on my main display. The main display stays Dark until it's Time to sign in to windows (win 10 insider 18855).

I would like to know if this behavior is by design or if there is any option to get it showing on both displays at the same time on BOOT.

Changing BIOS display setting from Automatic to individually select primary display port does not alter anything

Everything work as normal after signing in to windows.

I tried to revert back to BIOS 72 using F7 (I always use F7) but got the message incompatible Version? Never tried downgrading BIOS before so maybe this is normal.

Hello DPers1, Thank you for posting on the Intel ® communities. The behavior you mention is actually an expected behavior, when the system is posting and before logging into Windows, the default monitor will be the one that displays BIOS as well as the lock screen before logging in to Windows. After you log in, the system will recognize your second monitor right away and display image there. Regards, David V Intel Customer Support Technician Under Contract to Intel Corporation

Hello DPers1,

To answer to your second question about bios downgrade: Due to the Intel ME firmware update in BIOS version 0076, you can’t downgrade to version 0072 or earlier. See the 'Known Errata" in the Release Notes https://downloadmirror.intel.com/28640/eng/BN_0076_ReleaseNotes2.pdf

Well 0n 72 and all predecessors you got the pre windows message on both TB and HDMI monitors at the same time now it only shows up on HDMI basically if you are on TB only you will never see F2 F7 F10 option on startup.

As for the downgrade I guess there is a reason for calling it ReleaseNotes2 (as in opps we have discovered that you cant downgrade to fix the problem introduced with TB attached Monitors when upgrading to 0076.

  1. The Bios output will be given to only the first monitor detected. So, I suppose that if you will disconnect the HDMI display and leave the TB connected, you will see Bios output on your PC monitor.
  2. I don't know the order of checking monitor connection in NUC7i5BNH. For example only, with help of Mr. N.Scott Pearson, I can show you this order in NUC8i7HVK and NUC8i7HNK: https://forums.intel.com/s/question/0D50P00004AswzOSAR/how-does-nuc-know-which-monitor-to-boot-from

There is absolutely Nothing on the TB port before you log in to windows. On Bios 0072 and earlier all pre windows messages the boot spin and all the boot options were displayed simultaneously on both HDMI and TB attached Displays.

Also you are posting about NUC8 If you read the original post its about BUC7iBNH. Furthermore I do not think that NUC8 has a BIOS that is anywhere close to 0076 number wise.

Hello DPers1, Thank you for your response. I can try testing this on-site; however, normally the BIOS and the options during Post should only be shown in the default monitor in use. Also, I am unable to see the thread you have mentioned, I was checking your account and I cannot find it. Do you happen to have a link so I can try looking? Let me know please.
