Bios update on NUC7i3DNHE .bio file not visible on USB stick

I have been trying to update the bios on a new NUC7i3DNHE and I have followed the instructions to format the USB stick to FAT32 (avoiding the quick format method). For the two different USB sticks I have tried using, in both cases, the existing bios can read the directory structure, but it cannot see the .bio file within that structure, or at the top level if placed there. Can anyone advise please?

Note that the existing bios from 2019 does not present an F7 option in a menu at start-up, but if I use F2 to get to the usual Visual Bios dashboard, there is an F7 option there for updating the bios that leads to the attempt to find the .bio file on the USB stick.

 Hello Roy,

1. Prepare USB stick fully formatted to FAT32 . Format your USB with Quick Format option unchecked. Do not format your USB in MAC (OS) or Linux machine. Use Windows. Download the DN0075.bio file. Copy the DN0075.bio file to the root of this USB.
2. Insert the USB with the DN0075.bio file into rear USB slot (your NUC should be OFF)
3. Power ON you NUC and when you see the Intel NUC logo repeatedly click on F7 (you will not see the F2, F7, F10 menu, since Secure Boot is enabled in BIOS, but the F7 key is functional). NUC will boot into storage menu. You should select your USB stick (mass storage device) and then the DN0075.bio file. Click enter the update will start and end during 2-3 minutes.

4. When update ends, the NUC will reboot.

Leon, you're a star! Thank you so much for taking the time to provide such a detailed reply - yes it has now worked for me. I still don't understand why the F7 option from within the bios dashboard does not show the .bio file on the USB stick, but following your steps above did the job.

Hello Roy,

Great that the update worked.  The method described in my post above, is the usual method for upgrade BIOS using F7 key.

It is not necessary to update BIOS, using F7 from BIOS. Please  find the BIOS Update and Recovery Instructions for Intel® NUC with Visual BIOS

However, just for curiosity, I've performed BIOS update from BIOS dashboard and it is working either. To see the .bio file, you need to uncheck the  "See System Files" box. See the attached video clip.

Thanks again, Leon. It didn't cross my mind that unticking the "See System Files" box would have revealed the .bio file. This is very counter-intuitive.

So, thanks to you, I now have two ways I could have saved myself two hours of hassle yesterday!
