Cable problems between NUC and pen display

I’m working with a NUC model NUC8i7HVB VERSION J68196-602

I also have a Huion Kamvas 13 pen display (2021) attached.

Huion provides two ways to cable the display

  • A “3-in-1” cable that merges HDMI, data from a USB port and power from a second USB port.
  • A proprietary “all in one” cable that carries combined power, data and images to and from the tablet.
  • This link show text and drawings about the two methods of connecting:

https://support.huion.com/en/support/solutions/articles/44002010185-how-do-i-connect-the-huion-kamva....

The Problem:

The 3-in1 cable arrangement works as expected, however it requires three ports on the NUC.
I’d like to regain the ports using the “all in one” cable which I believe is nothing more than a USB-C Gen3 to USB-A cable, although Huion won’t comment,

When I attach the “all-in-one” cable from a NUC Thunderbolt port to the USB 3 input on the display, my main screen goes blank with a “No HDMI” message. If I unplug the “all in one” the main screen returns immediately. My main screen is cabled directly from the rear NUC HDMI port to the monitor.

I can’t find any combination of ports that will let both devices work at the same time. I have used the Windows 10 System>Display settings extensively and I believe I am handling the screen setup successfully. Working with the system settings in Word 10, the tablet image is inverted to move the Huion keys to the right, for a left hander (me) and the image is extended so I can start a second graphic program drag it into the extended area and view it on the pen display

I do have two unused mini-Data Ports, but I understand that the Thunderbolt ports can transmit the same video data.

That’s more than enough from me. If someone has some thoughts on ways to resolve this, I would be very grateful.

Hello Kupuna,

Thank you for posting on the Intel️® communities.

I want to confirm some information to have more inside into your issue, provide me with know the following:

  • Did the system and the Huion device use to work before?
  • Was there any major hardware or software change before the issue started?
  • What is the resolution and refresh rate you configured on the monitor and Huion device?
  • Is there another monitor beside the Huion device and the main monitor?
  • Create a report using the Intel System Support Utility (Intel SSU)

Aloha from Hawaii Jean,

The problem was not with cables or the NUC, it was caused by MY incorrect use of the "Extend" and Mirror options in Windows. Thank you for your time.
