Can bitlocker cause overheating the nuc?

When we have enabled bitlocker on multiple NUCS they start the get really hot and slow down.

Nuc with the problem:

NUC7i5BNB

NUC7i7DNB

Bios is updated to the latest version

When we change the bios settings to cool it more, it makes alot of noise but it does not solve the problem

When we have disabled Bitlocker the problems start to disapear.

Bitlocker is implementing disk encryption in software, so of course it can cause additional heat. Still, you should not be seeing temperatures rise to the throttling level if the blower is properly responding (or attempting to respond) to high temperature conditions. What exactly are the settings that you are trying? Do you have the processor configured for balanced mode or max performance mode in both the BIOS and Windows configurations? Would also suggest that you (a) try running the Intel Processor Diagnostic Test and (b) use AIDA64 or HWiNFO64 and watch both the temperatures and fan (blower) speed.

Hope this helps,

Thank you for your response,

I use standard bios cooling settings, but as you mention it we use "High performance" settings in the windows energie settings. When we turn this down to balanced it helps a bit but not that much.

I have also tried it on a different NUC and so far no problems.

Make the corresponding change in the BIOS configuration. in BIOS Setup (Visual BIOS), click on Advanced and then Power. In the Primary Power Settings window, uncheck Max Performance Enabled and then check Balanced Enabled. Save these settings and reboot.

Hope this helps,
