I have a NUC8i7HVK and a Samsung 49" C49RG94SSU monitor connected through the Displayport. I can only choose 60hz when being in the 5k mode (5192x1440). Does anyone know if it's even possible to run 120hz with the top of the line NUC (we've been able to run 120hz just fine using other PC but same monitor/cable).
Is there a hardware limit, that there's just no way around maybe?

- When connected to DisplayPort, the NUC8i7HVK supports maximum resolution of 4096 x 2160 @60Hz 24bpp.
- When connectyed to Dual DisplayPoort monitor, maximum supported resolution is 5120 x 2880 @60Hz

Not sure I understand what you mean, but the monitor can do 5k @ 120hz as it works with other computers. Apparently the NUC is just not powerful enough, which was disappointing. The NUC can handle 120hz at 4K though, but that's not the native resolution of that particular monitor, so that defeats the purpose.
for sure a core display is not as powerful as a display card, but i think at least the NUC can output 4096*2304@60hz, which is equal 4096*2304*60/5192/1440=75hz on your monitor, . As your monitor is 5192*1440, so this display runs on 120Hz, the bit rate will be 5192*1440*120*24=21532262400, which is almost equal to the NUC bit rate up limit, so I think you can try to define a custom monitor output format to see if it is works.

I'm not sure that you can try what 威王4 is suggesting. The NUC8i7HVK graphics output is not generated by "core display", rather by Radeon RX Vega M GH Graphics chip. The Intel Graphics Command Center is not controlling practically the video output. Some of the adjustments you may control trough the AMD Radeon Settings panel (right click on desktop). In the desplay section of AMD panel you can create Custom Resolution settings.
