Hello,
I would like to want further support regarding the following issue.
I got a response from my colleague. He mentioned as followings.
I checked and made sure the selections were correct in the bios, but the POST message never shows up on startup. It only shows the skull with flashing eyes as I hit F2 on startup.
Could you tell me how to show the POST message and what POST message is expected?
Thanks,
ytnk

Hello YTNK,
Thank you one more time for posting on the Intel️® communities.
We were not looking for a POST message, as you mentioned. We wanted to confirm and clarify if the system is showing a normal boot to POST and whether or not the issue is when moving from POST to Windows.
Best regards,
Jean O.

Hello Jean,
Thank you for handling this issue again.
Regarding POST process, I think there is no issue. The system is showing normal boot to POST and no issue is shown from POST to Windows.
On the other hands, we have one more same type of NUC and it has the same behavior about resuming from hibernation by task scheduler. So I guess this is not device specific issue.
Thanks,
ytnk

Hello YTNK,
A quick observation on your issue, you are having problems with the Scheduled Tasks when using the hibernate (S4) state. For this to work properly, the system has to be in S5 - shutdown or off state. Try it in this way and let me know the outcome.

Hello Jean,
Thank you for your new proposal for investigation, but I'm not sure what operation should I do. Do you mean the following instructions?
- Task scheduler is set to wake the system up at 2:00 pm.
- I shutdown the system manually at 1:50 pm.
- I check the result whether the system wakes up at 2:00 pm.
Thanks,
ytnk

Hello YTNK,
Thank you for your response.
Regarding your question, what I am looking for is to try the same Scheduled Tasks, however, instead of setting the device to go to hibernate (S4), this time you should use the S5 - shutdown or off state. The steps you mentioned would be ok to test and see if there is a change.
Best regards,
Jean O.

Hello Jean,
instead of setting the device to go to hibernate (S4), this time you should use the S5 - shutdown or off state.
It is impossible because Windows Task Scheduler just wakes the system from sleep(S3) or hibernate(S4) state.

Hello YTNK,
Thanks for the information.
There is an option on the BIOS for your Intel Intel® NUC where you can set the device to configure an Intel® NUC to automatically wake up at a certain date and time. I recommend you try this option and see if there is any problem:
- Press F2 during boot to enter BIOS Setup.
- Go to Advanced > Power.
- In the Secondary Power Settings pane, enable Wake System from S5.
- Several options appear, allowing you to set how often and when you want the Intel NUC to wake. The options can differ depending on the Intel NUC model you have.
- After making the settings changes, press F10 to save and exit BIOS Setup.

Hello Jean,
Thank you for your proposal and I'm sorry for late response.
I think your proposal works technically, but if we adopt your solution, Windows Tasks Scheduler is used for shutdown and BIOS Setup is used for wake up. This situation is not desirable. It is hard for our customers to operate both of Windows Task Scheduler and BIOS Setup to change shutdown and wake up time. I don't want to introduce special operation for only NUC.
Thanks,
ytnk

Hello YTNK,
Our recommendation is to use the wake-up option on the BIOS menu; however, there is no option to schedule a shutdown in the BIOS. We understand that you want to keep with the Windows Tasks Scheduler. If you stick to using the Windows Tasks Scheduler, you should contact Microsoft support as it is their software and may have a resolution for your issue.

OK. I'll ask about this issue to Microsoft Support. On the other hands, is there anything else worth trying?

Hello YTNK,
Thank you for your response.
To answer your question, I apologize there isn't any other recommendation that fully covers what you are looking for. Also, as you mentioned that you would contact Microsoft support, I will close this thread now. Please, keep in mind that this thread will no longer be monitored by Intel.
Thanks for your understanding.
