DCH drivers which are now pushed with windows update, breaks 7i7BNH 4K 60P (video flicker and dropouts)

I'll have to bump this topic again as Microsoft is now pushing the DCH drivers (which do not work or are not approved as you mention) to my NUC in previous posts. It was one thing when I was downloading the drivers manually and could roll back if they didn't work, but now Microsoft is pushing them out with windows updates and they do not work. This requires me to manually uninstall their driver, go back to my archive of the "approved NUC driver" and manually install it.

 

All DCH drivers cause video flicker at 4K 60p HDR for me on 7i7BNH. It doesn't matter if I use HDMI direct or a handful of HDMI adapters. All of which works fine with legacy graphic drivers, but a total flop with DCH.

 

Why are you (intel) now publishing DCH drivers for this NUC to Microsoft for windows update if you state they are not approved (and they do not work) when I should only be using the approved driver from the download page for this particular NUC?

 

Since the DCH is a generic driver for all platforms and you are pushing it with windows updates then make it work for this NUC, or else please remove this hardware from the driver updates.

Thank you for posting in the Intel Community.

 

·        In what applications do the flickering happens?

·        What driver is working properly on the system?

·        Have you tried uninstalling all the graphics drivers on the system to get to Microsoft® basic display adapter? 

·        If you currently have a DCH driver installed on the system you can follow these steps:

1-   Disconnect from the Internet so no new drivers are automatically installed by Windows Update.

2-   Uninstall the driver and the Intel Graphics Control Panel from Control Panel > Programs and Features.

3-   Restart the computer.

4-   Confirm in Device Manager > Video Adapters the controller is listed as 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter' > if not, repeat steps 2 through 4.

5-   If the adapter continues to be listed as ‘Intel HD Graphics’ or similar, and no other Intel Graphics driver is listed under 'Programs and Features' for removal, then it means Windows has switched to a previously installed Legacy driver. At this point we can remove Legacy drivers from Device Manager:

a.   6.1.1 Right-click on 'Intel HD Graphics' or similar, and select 'Uninstall Device'

b.   6.1.2 In the pop-up window make sure 'Delete the driver software for this device' is checked.

c.   6.1.3 Click on 'Uninstall'.

d.   6.1.4 Restart. (Repeat steps 6.1.1 through 6.1.4 until the device gets listed as 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter')

6-   Restart the computer.

7-   Reconnect to the Internet.

8-   Go to the device manager search for the display adapters, right click on the Intel® graphics adapter, and select the option update driver, and automatically update search for the updates.

 

 

·        Please attach to this thread the TXT file the Intel® System Support Utility will generate: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility

·        Steps to save the report:

1-   Run the utility.

2-   Click on “Scan” to get the scanned system.

3-   Once the scan is complete click on “next”.

4-   Use the “save” option, save the report to your desktop.

5-   To attach a file, you must click the “Attach” option on the bottom left-hand corner of the response box.

Hello Leonardo.

I'll try to be as thorough as possible.

 

The flickering happens in most windows applications, including full desktop flickering. Firefox, Chrome browsing, watching videos on youtube or other sources from local media. Trying to write an email in outlook, office apps, excel. Its so bad that I have to load a working driver to make the system usable.

 

Currently the latest 100% stable working driver for me is 25.20.100.6373 (win64_25.20.100.6373.exe) - iris plus 650 legacy download from ages ago.

Installed manually after doing a driver uninstall from device manager each time windows installs a new driver. To prevent that I have for now disabled driver updates (system properties > advanced system settings > hardware > device installation settings > "no do not download" ). This is not ideal as it blocks all driver and app updates, some of which I wouldn't mind.

 

Any and all drivers after 25.20.100.6373 are not stable for me at 4k 2160p @60hz.

This includes all DCH drivers and all drivers that are now being provided by Microsoft for this hardware. I've tried every driver from the first release of DCH with the same issue. I wrote about it several months back and I was told by Intel to only use the driver from the NUC download page as the DCH drivers were not validated for this NUC. That wasn't a problem until a driver was published to microsoft which includes this NUC. As a result it's loading a driver that does not work.

 

I'll attach the SSU.txt but I'm not sure what good it does, it's basic machine information.

I will also delete my stable working graphic diver and try your method of installing from microsoft update which will load a non-working driver.

I went through the uninstall process all the way back to base microsoft driver and then did an online driver update from device manager. It bought me to 26.20.100.6891. At this moment I've been able to logon and open a web browser long enough to type this without a video flicker. I will continue to test and report back after I watch a few videos and try some applications.

I spoke too soon, graphic droputs and flicker watching 4K youtube and loading 4K videos locally. Please help

Hi TTX, I would recommend that you stay with the Driver validated for the NUC, the latest available version is 24.20.100.6286. The driver that you mentioned you have 25.20.100.6373 is newer but still not validated, this is the "generic" Graphics driver version intended for multiple devices. Can you please try it and report back? Ronny, I will stick with the 6373 build which seems to work the best for me. I was just hoping that it could be passed along to the developers that the DCH drivers do not work.
