DX79SR - Rear USB 3.0 Ports Not Working - What is the fix?

In Device Manager, the Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller that pertains to the rear USB 3.0 ports has a yellow warning sign with an exclamation character in the middle and the status of the device is "This device cannot start (Code 10)". I have tried to disable and re-enable the device, uninstall and reinstall the driver to no avail. I have the latest BIOS and Renesas driver versions which I downloaded and installed from the Intel download site. The BIOS version is SIX7910J.86A.0553.EB and the Renesas version is 3.0.12.0. Does anyone else experience this same issue? Does anyone have a fix for it?

Hello,

That information is correct. You may want to check on the following links and download the firmware. This fix the issue on the Intel® Desktop Boards DX79SR and DX79TO

Firmware for the back panel USB 3.0 ports

Download the following file: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror.intel.com/22775/eng/200... https://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror.intel.com/22775/eng/200...

Follow these steps

1. Download the file 201_Rear.zip.

2. Extract the contents of the .zip file to a folder.

3. Go to the appropriate subfolder for your operating system:

- If 32-bit, go to \x86

- If 64-bit, go to \x64

4. Run the file Update_2.0.2.0.bat.

The 201_Rear fix with the 2.0.2.0.bat still does not solve the problem we are having with the DX79SR board. I was wondering which of these two USB 3.0 expansion cards you could recommend to fix this issue.

or

We have tried just about all combinations to get these 4 Rear USB 3.0 ports to work on the DX79SR with no avail.

Thanks for you help.

Yes, I have installed this Board 10 Days ago and spent many hours trying to install - uninstall the .bat files and I keep getting

(click on image to see the 58)

And after reboot (again) it will go past the 58 hang but then I get:

Otherwise the DX79SR Board works good. That is why I was going to get the add Card not to have to go through ALL the time and work and inconvenience of having to RETURN this board and wait, wait, wait while you are out of a system in the mean time.

Well, ... any other thoughts?

Thank you Carter ..for your previous responses.

It does seem that there is NO fix with this problem and I know I have tried every which way to get it to work. Everything up tp date Bios 559 and W8.

Does any one have an Idea as which board to Replace the DX79SR with? With the features and that does have the USB 3.0 ports working?

Any help will be appreciated.

Hello

rirussint, I see You have last BIOS package.

Have You try to remove any additional PCI-Express cards (like RAID controllers, Sound Blaster card etc.) form the system, than apply firmware update for USB 3.0 again

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22775&lang=eng&OSVersion=%0A%09%09%0...

please be sure You run cmd line with Administrator rights when running firmware update for USB 3.0 and executing both (front and rear) firmware updates finish with no errors.

Next I recommend to go in to motherboard bios (F2 at startup) and load bios default settings, save and reboot motherboard than enter to verify if everything working correctly.

I assume for Windows 8 there is no driver package for USB 3.0, so please be sure You download and install all necessary updates from Microsoft (using Windows Update).

Please be sure You have installed Intel chipset inf. Drivers : https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=20462&lang=eng https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=20462&lang=eng

and management engine drivers :

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22090&lang=eng https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22090&lang=eng

(after that OS reboot may be necessary).

I am using Windows 7 x64 Ultimate and after USB 3.0 firmware update with BIOS 0559 I have no problems with USB 3.0 ports (front and rear) for the past month.

I also made test on Windows 8 when I troubleshooting this issue, I simply put new HDD, install Win 8 x64 Prof, install all drivers from Intel + Nvidia SVGA driver, than I apply all Windows update fixes and do test on rear USB 3.0 ports – it works grate for about 4 hours.

It was no problems, even when I reboot OS for few times, power it off and then on (with power cord unplugging), adding additional PCI-Express card (first SB Recon3D than RAID controller card) and so on.

After that I switch back HDD for my Win 7 OS (with I use for work, games and internet browsing) and never again get back to Win 8 on this platform.

I hope I help You with troubleshooting Your problem and resolving it.

Best Regards

Piotr

Thanks Piotr,

Will try these and see if it works, however I installed a $19.00 4 Port USB 3.0 from Anker and those are working.

Thanks,
