Does a NUC need a surge protector?

My surge protector blew out when I was using my old computer.   Since I bought my new NUC, I don't have a surge protector.  Since my NUC has a power adapter, people tell me I don't need a surge protector.  Are they right?

Get another one. You should always protect expensive computer equipment from power issues.

I'm not using a surge protector to protect my NUC. However, I'm living in thunderstorm free area. I partially agree also with the people telling that if you are using Power Supply brick, the a surge protector is not necessary.  The modern Power Brick, automatically regulating power input 110 - 220VAC, 50-60Hz, in worst case will fail when high power surge occurs, but the computer will be not damaged. But is your power source suffering from surges, why not buy and use surge protector. They are not so expensive (see this one for an example)
