Does the NUC7i7DNKE support hardware encryption for NVME drives?

I am using a Samsung 970 Pro M2 as boot device and would like to enable hardware encryption if it would improve performance.

Hello @SEsbj

The issue where disk encryption on Samsung eDrive doesn’t work was fixed in bios version 0060 (see Release Notes https://downloadmirror.intel.com/28465/eng/DNi7_0060_ReleaseNotes.pdf). So, if your bios is not updated yet, please download DNi70060.bio file https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28465/BIOS-Update-DNKBLi7v-86A-?product=130392 and update your bios using F7 option https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005850/mini-pcs.html

Updated to latest bios and not only does eDrive not work, but also had very slow speeds. So, downgraded to 53 and suddenly speed is what it should be. Then proceeded to upgrade through the progression of updates....

Speeds still great, but eDrive still doesn't work. Only Bitlocker Software (Opal) works. It actually LOOKED like it worked right after install, meaning when I activated Bitlocker it didn't give the screen asking "how much of the drive to encrypt" instead it said the disk was encrypted. But after a reboot it shows software encryption. I would really like to know the steps, if any, that has worked for someone with this setup. This is very frustrating and seems over complicated.

But at least my speeds are what they should be.... 😀

Enabling encryption improves security; it does not improve performance.
