I’ve noticed last few weeks the drivers that are presented on the NUC drive site are a few versions older than the drivers that are available for down loads from the Support Download section.
What’s up with that?

This will rarely NOT be the case.
Intel has a rule that it will not warranty anything that hasn't been formally tested. In this case, what it means is that Intel will only promote a driver as being for a particular NUC if that driver has been formally validated with that particular NUC. Since the NUCs are the product of a separate organization within Intel, this level of validation is also going to be separate from any validation performed by the originating group and thus will always occur sometime after the release by the originating organization.
Note that I am NOT saying that these other organizations do not use NUCs in their validation, just that a separate validation process has to take place before the NUC team itself will say it is applicable. I am also NOT saying that newer driver releases will NOT work with the NUCs, just that the NUC team will not say it is applicable until they actually do this validation.
