Cannot get surround sound audio when HDMI direct into TV.
TV is a Samsung Q950R (2019 8K model UK) & AVR is Sony HTZ9 with additional rear speakers (Atmos/DTS:X enabled)
Nuc8i5BEH
HDMI from NUC direct to TV gives me the ability to use 2K@120hz (this NUC doesnt support 4K@120hz sadly, or 8K) this is a requirement for me to use Shadow Game Stream at that resolution. Sadly though this only gives me STEREO sound output rather than surround.
If I plug the HDMI from NUC direct into AVR I do get surround sound, but am limited to 60hz refresh rate as that is the limitation of the AVR/Soundbar.
I have attempted to plug HDMI direct to TV to get 2k@120hz refresh & then connect a USB-C to HDMI direct from the NUC into the Sony HTZ9. This gives me the resolution output & shows options for me to enable 5.1, 7.1 & Dolby Atmos for Home Theaters, sadly though, there is no audio at all.
How can I configure this to get 2K@120hz with surround sound (5.1 is just fine)
Kind regards

As far as I know, you can't. The NUC is being told by the TV to run in Stereo and that is what it is going to do. Route it through the sound bar and configure for 4K@60Hz; that's the best you can do. There is an ongoing investigation into this issue with another user, but as far as I know, nothing is forthcoming as yet.
Sorry, reality bites.

Yeah reality often bites hard when your on the bleeding edge lol. So many false dawns.
I ponder if I would have any better luck with an external soundcard via USB. Im 100% insistent about ensuring I get 120hz vs surround sound, I just wonder if there is a way to get the best of both worlds.

If you find a good USB Sound device, let me know. I have played with a few devices (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07G4XYTWB and https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BGS2BS1) but fought with low output level issues. I haven't tried using TOSlink as yet, however.
