HDMI and USB audio output to DAC

Hi there,

I got a NUC8i5BEH1. I use my Sony TV via HDMI as screen and trying to have a stable audio output via USB to my DAC (McIntosh C47). I tried a lot of different setup without success so I turn to you. Yes all driver are updated, yes I tried Audio USB 2.0 driver AND McIntosh specific driver.

I manage to have a connection sometimes but after some minutes USB driver crash and only HDMI remains as a possible audio output.

What can I do?

Thanks

MGiro3, Thank you for posting in the Intel® Communities Support.

In order for us to provide the most accurate assistance, we just wanted to confirm a few details about your system:

Is this a new Intel® NUC?

Was it working fine before?

Did you make any recent hardware/software changes?

When did the issue start?

Which Windows* version are you using?

You mentioned that you installed "Audio USB 2.0 driver", from where did you download that driver? Is there a link that we can visit to verify the details about the driver?

Are you using adapters or converters? If you do, please let us know the model of them.

Please provide a detailed description of how the devices are connected including the ports that you are using to connect them, for example, Intel® NUC connected to amplifier using HDMI, amplifier connected to monitor/TV using Display Port.

Just to confirm, if you connect the Intel® NUC directly to the monitor/TV using a straight HDMI cable without the amplifier, is the problem the same or does it work properly?

You informed that the BIOS was updated, the latest BIOS version for the Intel® NUC Kit NUC8i5BEH is version 0073, is that the version currently installed?:

Hi Again, It is a new NUC8. Sadly it has no SPDIF. I use HDMI to my Sony TV only to use as a screen, no audio required (I tried disabling Intel Audio...no helpful) I use USB (tried all ports) to my DAC. Strait USB cable (tried 2 different ones but it is good quality cable working on other setups).

Hi MGiro3, thank you very much for providing those details.

Just to let you know, the fact that the audio works fine when the Intel® NUC Kit NUC8i5BEH is directly connected to the monitor/TV with a straight HDMI cable, it indicates that there is no hardware problem with the unit.

In this case, the problem seems to be related to compatibility between the Intel® NUC and the McIntosh amplifier. Even though sometimes works fine, the fact that after some minutes the USB driver crashes is also a behavior that is related to a compatibility problem.

In the following link you will find a list of devices that were validated by Intel® as fully compatible with the Intel® NUC Kit NUC8i5BEH, in there you will see different products like receivers that might be useful for the audio configuration:

The USB drivers are provided by Windows*, so as an option you can always get in contact directly with Microsoft for the to provide further suggestions on this matter:

Hi MGiro3, Thank you very much for your response.

The problem seems to be related to compatibility between the Intel® NUC and the McIntosh amplifier, if the devices are not fully compatible then it is expected for them to have some issues when working with each other.

Since the USB drivers are provided by Windows*, as an alternative, you can always contact them directly to report this issue and to verify if they have further suggestions for this scenario.

Any other inquiry, do not hesitate to post it in this thread, so we can further assist you.
