HDMI flickering on Windows 10 (NUC7i7BNH)

It's been a while since I've last used my NUC and I've decided to format and reinstall Windows.

For my surprise, from time to time, the screen flickers, goes dark and comes back and the funny thing is that seems to only happen on Windows 10. At least I didn't see it happen when I was formatting the drive using Parted Magic. The Windows 10 version I'm using is build 1909.

Here's the steps I've tried:

  • Installed the latest drive from Windows Update.
  • Installed the latest drive from Intel's Download Center.
  • Updated the BIOS.
  • Updated the HDMI firmware.

And I'm still having issues.

What else can I do?

Thanks

Explain "parted magic"? A clean install does not need that. Are you dual booting?

Try a better hdmi cable.

Hello,

I’ve tried two cables with two different devices and the screen still flickers.

I know that a clean install doesn’t need parted magic, but I have the habit of using it to format the PC properly and I used as an example to describe that outside Windows, the flickering is not happening.

Hello TheDigitalJockey,

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

Are you still experiencing this issue? if so please provide the following report:

1. Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU)

  • Intel® SSU Download link
  • Open the application and click on "Scan" to see the system and device information. By default, Intel® SSU will take you to the "Summary View".
  • Click on the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".
  • To save your scan, click on "Next", then "Save".

Questions:

  • Does the screen flicker at any resolution? are you trying to set up a specific resolution?
  • Have you tried a different monitor?

Hello,

I've tried on a different monitor with the same results. It's important to mention that the NUC worked fine over a year in this monitor in this resolution and then, for some reason, after I've formatted it, the flickering started.

If I have to guess, I would say it's driver related. That would explain why the problem never happened before and why started after the formatting.

Hello TheDigitalJockey,

Thank you for your reply.

Please provide the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) report.

May I know why did you format Windows?

Can you please clarify if the Parted Magic you used is a clone image from another machine or Intel® NUC?

Can you please try a fresh OS installation and test the behavior?

Is there a possibility that you can test a different output port like USB-C and check if the same issue happens?

Best regards,
