Hello all
I am having some issues regarding the HDMI ports and connected displays.
Firstly the hardware that I am using. In another thread regarding HDMI an Intel employee asked for more information, so I included this as well:
Intel board: NUC11TNBV5
"Thank you for posting on the Intel️® communities. Please share more information with us:"
- Please explain the connections used (graphics, cables, monitors)
Monitors used:
BENQ BL2480T 1920 x 1080 p monitor (works on both ports without issues)
Adafruit 7" LCD display HDMI 7 800x480 Display Backpack - With Touchscreen
Adafruit HDMI dummy plug HDMI Dummy Plug
- Which BIOS version do you have?
Info taken from msinfo32 | BIOS Version/Date:
Intel Corp. TNTGLV57.0042.2020.1221.1758, 21/12/2020
- Are your drivers up to date?
As far as I know, yes
- Provide the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) results
See attached file: Intel SSU scan.txt
There are two issues
One is regarding the 7" display by Adafruit. Somehow, the display is only recognisable on one of the HDMI ports (port 1 according to the technical specs document of the NUC11 boards). If plugged into the other port, Win10 does not recognise it at all. Additionally, the resolution of the display is not the native resolution (640 x 480 as opposed to 800 x 480) and it cannot be changed. I have gotten in touch with Adafruit support but there are no helpful leads yet. Adafruit customer service forums • View topic - HDMI 7" 800x480 Display Backpack - With Touchscreen issues
One thing I did find out is that the EDID of the 7" monitor has somehow been changed while using it with the NUC, after which the problems arose. I checked the BIOS and "Persistent Display Emulation" is not enabled and I never used it either.
The second issue is that the above linked HDMI dummy plug only works on HDMI port 2, not only HDMI port 1, i.e. It is not recognised as a display on HDMI 1 by Win10.
Did anyone come across similar problems?
Many thanks
David

Hello d_c
Based on the information provided, please try the following:
- Your BIOS version (0042) is outdated, the latest version is 0058. Please follow the steps on our article:
- BIOS Update and Recovery Instructions for Intel® NUCs with the Aptio® V UEFI Firmware Core
- The latest graphics driver is .9415, please update manually.
- You're using an LTSC version of windows, does this same thing happen with the latest Windows 10 build (non-LTSC/LTSB)?

Hi David
Thank you for the reply.
I will try out the steps you have outlined.
In the meantime, I also did some further testing:
- Indeed, the edit of the 7" monitor EDID happens at the moment when the display is plugged into the HDMI Port 1 of the NUC.
- This also happens on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (BIOS unchanged). However, when running Ubuntu, the display would always be recognised correctly on HMDI port 1.
