HVK USB restarts machine

Jump to solution

Hi all

I've been using a NUC8i7HVK for a couple of weeks now and I am absolutely loving this little thing!

However I have stumbled upon something that makes me think there might be a problem with my unit...

I noticed that if i plug a USB cable into the yellow USB port on the front of the device, it immediately restarts my system.

-all lights turn off, then come back on again and the system boots back up.

Oddly enough, this only seems to happen if the USB cable I plug in doesn't have anything attached on the other end - plugging in say memory stick, or my phone with the phone plugged in first..

Pretty sure its not the cable as I cannot reproduce this issue on any of the other usb ports with the same cable.

Has anyone else come across this before?

Thanks David V

I think this may have been the cause!

I added a little extra insulation around those wires (on inspection they didn't appear to be damaged) and the problem seems to have gone away!

Seems like it would have made more sense to solder the wires at the center of those pads for more clearance rather than at the leading edge.

Never mind, I'm a happy chappy for now!

The recommendation by the above support agent looks pretty spot on.

In addition to the linked document, If you find that you don't wish to use your digital microphone array on the system itself you can also unplug the whole array by unplugging the white connector that is attached to the 4 digital microphones that is close to the memory slots.
