What model is your NUC?

An external DVD, typically, is connected to the NUC by USB. If your computer is not a NUC, and you have a firewire/1394 interface, some external DVDs can be connected by firewire.

Ok, get a cheap USB DVD drive, and plug it into one of the USB ports.

I did that, but the computer doesn't indicate that it has detected a new removable device.
