How do I get Windows 7 installed on a NUC7I5BNH?

The NUC only has USB 2 ports and Windows 7 has no USB drivers.

I have been through the "make a USB install images and patch it with drivers" process.

I can get past the Language prompt, but later it reboots, asks for my computer account and the USB 3 drivers that were part of the install image are not part of the Windows 7 install and once again the keyboard and mouse fail.

we need a solution to this.

How do I open a support case?

Hello DavidAkers,

Thank you for reaching the Intel Communities. I understand you are not being able to install Windows 7* on your Intel® NUC Kit NUC7i5BNH and possibly you want to use that OS for a specific reason.

In this case, I regret to inform you that Windows 7* is not officially supported on the unit, for that reason I cannot guarantee it can work, but some recommendations can be given for sure.

This is the OS support article for you to check: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005628/boards-and-kits/intel-nuc-boards.... Supported Operating Systems for Intel® NUC Products

Then, some recommendations:
  • Test different Windows 7* ISOs with the tool used to insert USB 3.0 drivers
  • If possible, use a Windows 8.1 system to insert the USB 3.0 drivers, some peers have reported it works better with Windows 8.1
  • You can also test other tools outside Intel* to insert USB 3.0 drivers to the ISO

Additional article to be checked: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000017241/boards-and-kits/intel-nuc-kits.ht... Install Windows 7* on Computers with USB 3.0

Thanks,

I bought a copy of Windows 10 and it does not work either. The install starts and then fails and reboots endlessly. I have a 500 GB Sony SSD and 16 GB RAM.

I am out of ideas.

I am sorry to hear you are facing troubles with the Windows 10* ISO as well! DavidAkers

Are you getting any sort of error message when it fails?

Did you use the Medial tool creator from Microsoft to create the USB bootable device?

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 Download Windows 10

Maybe this can help as well:

Please let me know how it goes.

Thanks,
