I've looked for a keyboard combination or something like it to no avail. Am I missing something or do you only put it into hibernation?

You use use Sleep (F3) or Hibernation (F4). In order to use Hibernation, you need to go into BIOS Setup (Visual BIOS) and enable USB power in S4/S5, so that the keyboard is awake and a keypress can resume the system.
