Intel Driver & Support Assistant does not save Download Directory.

Hello,

I have found that the last few versions of Intel Driver and Support Assistant does not save the Download Directory in the settings dialog.

I have tried setting it to a mapped drive and unc path (both of which used to work on older versions) but this does not save in the latest version 19.4.18.9.

I have several NUCs to update and don't really need to download all drivers again on each one and copying the files each time can be tedious.

I've looked in several locations in the program properties but cannot see a config file or similar to 'hard-modify' either.

Any help would be great.

Windows 10 x64 1809

NUC 5,6,7,8 have all been tried with no success

Thank you.

Hello IP

Thank you for posting in the Intel Community.

In order to lock into your case, can you provide me with the Intel® DSA log files in C:/ProgramData/Intel/DSA.

Also please provide me with the steps that you have done in the past to get the Download Directory.

NOTE: you might have to select the view hidden items to see the log files.

Hello Leonardo,

Thank you for the reply, I was away for a few days.

I have attached any files that say log from that folder in a zip file.

In the past, I was able to use the following to map a drive and then point the download settings of DSA to Z:

net use z: "\\server\programs\Intel Driver Support Utility" /persistent:no

As you can see, this is not persistent, however I would only be updating drivers manually, so that would be set every time I do any driver updates - this at the moment is on a bunch of brand new NUC8i3s.

I would be more than happy that the download folder would change if the mapped drive changed, however as I only do this on a manual basis that shouldn't effect it.

The folders under that directory are:

Mode LastWriteTime Length Name ---- ------------- ------ ---- d----- 8/03/2019 11:01 AM Intel Driver and Support Assistant -a---- 17/04/2019 11:43 AM 14221344 Intel Driver and Support Assistant Installer.exe -a---- 1/03/2019 9:45 AM 68 set z as install location.txt

Under that is currently

Mode LastWriteTime Length Name ---- ------------- ------ ---- d----- 1/03/2019 9:44 AM AUD_Win7_8.1_10_64_6.0.1.8192 d----- 1/03/2019 9:48 AM GFX_Win10_64_24.20.100.6025_BN d----- 1/03/2019 9:48 AM ME_Consumer_Win10_11.8.50.3460 -a---- 20/07/2018 8:46 AM 159207921 AUD_Win7_8.1_10_64_6.0.1.8192.zip -a---- 3/12/2018 12:04 PM 7659520 BNKBL357.86A.0071.EB.msi -a---- 20/07/2018 8:48 AM 388275379 GFX_Win10_64_24.20.100.6025_BN.zip -a---- 20/07/2018 8:49 AM 76083264 LAN_WIN10_64_23.2.exe -a---- 20/07/2018 8:48 AM 81298013 ME_Consumer_Win10_11.8.50.3460.zip -a---- 20/07/2018 8:47 AM 93789408 WIFI_WIN10_64_20.60.0.exe -a---- 8/03/2019 11:01 AM 211346040 win64_15.40.41.5058.exe

But obviously they are older versions of the drivers.

I have also tried using UNC paths but this is very difficult as there is no method of copy/paste a path into the directory selection dialogue.

Cheers,

IP

I have now tried DSA v19.5.22.9 on Win7 x64, mapped the drive, set the Download Directory, closed settings, opened them back up again and the directory has reset to the default of C:\users\CurrentUser\Downloads.

Hello IP

Thank you for waiting.

You can change the download folder in the settings but it must be on the C: drive; that's why it keeps defaulting back. You can refer to the following link regarding more information: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000025705.html

Hello IP

We have received an update form the developer team that changing the download can be performed, could try completing the change and provide me with the Intel® DSA logs after the change?

By the way, are you changing the Download Directory to a local folder? Please let me know what folder are you setting for the directory.

Hi LeoC,

I have 10x coming in on Monday so I will try back then.

Has DSA changed now to force reboot upon install of each driver?!?!

If so that is just as equally annoying, especially as some of these would have up to 8 drivers (x10 if installing on 10 computers at a time).

I was going to suggest installing all using the /quiet or /silent too!

I've now tried the following two commands to create a mapped drive, and also a mapped folder and neither of them work:

net use z: "\\NAS\apps\Intel Driver Support Utility" /persistent:no mklink /D c:\intel\test "\\NAS\apps\Intel Driver Support Utility"

I find if I try to point DSA to the mapped folder (2nd command above), it ends up resolving the UNC path the settings dialog:

intel.PNG

Pressing Save Changes button and re-opening DSA Settings will then show the Download Directory reverted back to C:\users\user\Downloads

Thank you very much for looking into this for me, this could save a fair amount of time.

(I've attached the DSA logs to this thread as I was creating the screen shots, this is from a NUC7, Win10x64, DSA 19.5.22.9)

Hello IP

Our developers were able to reproduce this issue and it looks like a permissions issue. We think the network drive that you trying to set does not allow read/write from the local administrator (service runs as administrator).

Can you check if the permissions are like on the network folder?

Hi Leo,

I will test with a different folder share on the next batch as the current share does not allow machine access, only user access.

If it doesn't work I will continue doing what I am at the moment.

Are there any flags that I can use on the command line to install the program, check for updates and install them automically without user intervention?

Thank you!

Hello IP

The Installation of Intel® DSA is with the .exe file executed in Windows we don't use the command line for this process for updates we recommend monitoring our download center, never the less let me check for your request.
