The powerful Intel Edison board has been dead for a long time when Intel stopped producing it in 2017.
In the meantime, a small community formed with the goal to deliver modern firmware for it. The images work well and the major part of the original functionality has been re-enabled. The system was updated to the x86_64 architecture, the same used on the newer Intel boards.
One disadvantage: currently there do not exist any pre-assembled images. You need to build them yourself on behalf of the Yocto build system. Please check out the instructions: https://edison-fw.github.io/meta-intel-edison/
So Intel Edison owners, please give it a look, test the images and contribute to keep this effort alive!
