Intel NUC 5i5 RYK, no video on mini HDMI output

Hi

I never have used the mini HDMI output of my NUC until one day I  have learned there is no signal on this output. All the drivers and software are up to date. The mini display port is working properly. Any suggestions? Is it about some settings? Is it actually possible at least  to clone the video output  both on the mini display port and  the mini HDMI output or just one display can be used, alternately? The  display attached to the mini HDMI output is not detected. The mini HDMI to HDMI cable I used to connect the auxiliary display is OK, as it  was tested on another device. Is it about a HW failure?

Maybe the drivers are updated on your NUC but the BIOS was probably never updated. You have installed version 0359, while the latest released version is version 0385 (i.e. the BIOS was updated already 21 times since the version installed in your NUC).

I would suggest to update your BIOS and reset it to default settings. But I should worn you that jumping in one step so many version may brick your NUC. Since your NUC is quite old and is discontinued already, you will not get any replacement or support from Intel. In case that you decide to take this risk and update BIOS, use BIOS Recovery with The Yellow Security Jumper Removed method:

1. Prepare USB stick fully formatted to FAT32 . Format your USB with Quick Format option unchecked. Do not format your USB in MAC (OS) or Linux machine. Use Windows. Download the RY0385.bio file. Copy the RY0385.bio file to the root of this USB.
2. Disconnect the power adapter and remove the bottom panel from your NUC.
3. Remove the Yellow Bios Security Jumper. (page 52 in Technical Product Specification)
5. Insert the USB with the RY0385.bio file into rear USB slot.
6. Reconnect the power adapter and power ON the NUC. Wait 30 sec - 2min. The Recovery process will start automatically and will end after 2 -5 minutes.
7. When bios recovery is completed, press and hold the Power Button to switch the power OFF, remove the USB stick with the BIOS file, remove the power adapter and replace the Security Jumper (pins 1-2) . Reinstall the bottom panel.
8. Power your NUC ON.
9. Enter Bios setting by pressing F2 during boot process when you see the Intel NUC logo.
10. Press F9(followed by Enter), to set Bios to default settings. Press F10 (followed by Enter), to save the settings and exit to O.S. Let the NUC fully reboot.

11. If still the mini HDMI output is not working, enter BIOS again and in Advanced > Devices > Video tab set the the IDG Primary Video Port to Mini HDMI (Instead of default value AUTO). Press F10 (followed by Enter), to save the settings and exit to O.S.

Thanks very much, Leon, for your answer! I will try to do it, although I am not very comfortable with it,  and I will come with a follow up. There is always a risk to brick the NUC after BIOS update... However I am really confused because I think the NUC should work even with the old BIOS as it did some years ago when the BIOS version was up to date. Am I wrong?

Before BIOS update, you may reset the current BIOS to default settings and to set the  IDG Primary Video Port to Mini HDMI (see para. 10 and 11 in my post above). 

Yes, the NUC should work with two displays as declared in para. 1.5.1.5 in Technical Product Specification.  

You may also connect two monitors to DP port in Daisy Chaining configuration (if you have compatible monitors for Daisy Chain operation).
