Intel NUC D54250WYKH2 BIOS does not detect SSD

Hello,

I just received my Intel NUC D54250WYKH2 which I would like to use as XBMC Media Player. Since I already had a 120GB (G.Skill) SSD which I did not need before I wanted to use this in my NUC. So I assembled everything as shown in the manual and started the system. For some reason it did not detect my SSD. I know there are compatibility lists for mSSD Drives, but I am not planning to use an mSSD since I already have an SSD and the manual shows that both can be used in my case.

I already updated BIOS to the latest version but it still does not detect the SSD. Has anyone an idea what I can do?

Kind regards

I'm having the similar issues with the D54250WHKH detecting my ssd. I'm trying to use a OCZ Vertex 2 60gb drive. The NUC will not always see the drive. I have successfully installed OpenELEC on it and had it boot and work correctly a few times, but then nothing. I also tried installing Windows 7 and 8 (both 32 bit and 64 bit) and the Windows installer won't install to the drive saying "We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one 0x80300024"

I am able to use a regular 2.5" 250GB 5400rpm hard drive without any issues with any OS, so its doesn't seem to be a hardware issue with the NUC. I've also tried downgrading the BIOS as suggested in another post, but it didn't help me.

The OCZ drive is working fine in other computers. It's very frustrating, I've spent most of the weekend trying to figure it out. :S

Hello Guys, we have seeing this behavior on this NUC, however we were able to replicate this issue in our demos and he did not experience the same behavior.

Please check the following thread from a user who was having the same issue and he was able to solve it.

Hello,

I put my SSD back into my other computer and did a "diskpart / clean" using windows. Afterwards it was detected by the NUC BIOS.

After a reboot it was no longer detected. After the next reboot it was detected and I started to install my OS via USB Stick.

Unfortunately setup was not able to find a HD and after aborting & rebooting the SDD was no longer detected...

Quite weird, currently I am thinking about shipping this NUC back...

Thanks for the reply Sylvia, I tried rolling back the BIOS with no success. Is it possible that there's a bad batch of these NUC's? I believe mine was manufactured April 2014.

Sata and msata are an industry standard, the NUC should work with all drives. Just a note that the OCZ Vertex 2 SSD I'm trying to use in this NUC was running without issues in a NUC DN2820FYKH for about a month.

FlensGold, if you don't mind me asking, what SSD are you using?

Has there been any progress on this issue? I am having the same problem and my D34010WYKH has already been replaced once, the new one is only marginally better and recognizes the installed SSD about 1/5th of the time. SSD works without issue in other computers. Could not install Windows 7/8 on it with the NUC but managed to install OpenELEC after several tries. On the occasions it does boot the SSD it works without issue until turned off.

Hi Sylvia,

I apologize for the delay but I had to pull the SSD out of the NUC and into another PC to find the firmware version.

1) The issue is the SSD is sporadically not recognized by the NUC. This means that when attempting to install Windows 7 and 8 I was not able to complete install at all (using both external DVD drive as well as boot from a USB stick). Generally either formatting failed/ was not allowed or setup failed. Now that I managed after several attempts to install a variant of OPENelec the NUC only recognizes it has a boot drive approximately 1 in 5 times. Once into the OS it seems to run without issue.

2)

  • Model number: D34010WYKH
  • SSD model number: Corsair CSSD-F120GB2
  • BIOS version: Version 28 I believe as 30 was not available when last I tried to get this to work.
  • Is the SSD using the latest firmware available? Yes, 2.0
  • Operating system: Currently on OPENelec + Plex Home Theater (https://forums.plex.tv/index.php/topic/87943-openelec-plex-home-theater-the-all-in-one-pht-distro/ OpenELEC + Plex Home Theater - The all in one PHT distro - Plex Home Theater - Plex Forums)as I could not install Windows.

Regards,

Dane

Hi Sylvia,

Do we have any further update on this or an ETA for a possible fix? My NUC is now beyond the time limit for returning to my place of purchase and remains useless until I can consistently boot it with an OS. Thanks.

Hello Intel,

I'm having the same issue with my NUC D34010wykh. Disk not detected. Is there any progress in this issue.

The SSD is a Samsung 840 EVO.

OS is Openelec 5.0.

I have the latest BIOS version.

Thanks LeszekM,

I have the NUC D34010WYKH

G6YK419015R2 SA H26249.102

It seems I'm falling outside the boat in this one.

Is this something I can change by my self?

Peter

If you savvy with a soldering iron and surface mount components you might be able to replace the resistor yourself.

That's not an option. I just bought the device. Will this be in the warranty? It seems like hardware mallfunction of intel changed the hardware in the more recent builds.

Fix confirmed. Replacing R1 resistor to smaller value (in my case ~1.4 KOhm) helps. Now my NUC boots every time correctly.

It appears that will be the solution to my problem, since nothing else has worked. I will first take it to the retailer I got it from to get tech support from them.

Thanks!
