Intel NUC Multiple Display Flickering/Lagging

Hi guys,

We are small Brisbane based IT company and have recently started selling the 7th Gen i3, i5 and i7 NUCS.

In the last week, we have had 2 clients report identical symptoms. The second monitor which is plugged into the USB-C port via a VGA to USB C adaptor (see here for more info (https://www.umart.com.au/umart1/pro/Products-details.phtml?id=10&id2=440&bid=2&sid=296093 Volans VL-UCVG Aluminium USB Type C to VGA Convert ) starts flickering and intermittently goes black. These symptoms only occur when accessing Outlook, Excel and Word (at this stage).

I have updated the BIOS, Drivers and reinstalled Office on both machines and replaced the adaptors with the same one and the issues are still present. The issues seem to only appear when the second monitor is plugged in, so not a problem with Office.

Any idea what's going on here?

Hi MyComputerSupport,

I understand you have a couple of Intel® NUC with flickering issues when using VGA to USB-C adapters. Let me help you on this matter.

I would like to have additional information about your system configuration. Please run the following utility and attach the results.

Intel® System Support Utility

In order to attach files, make sure you select the "Advanced Editor" option in the top right of your reply window. You will then be presented with an attach file dialogue at the bottom of the reply.

Hi MyComputerSupport,

Thank you for the report.

I am currently testing same hardware configuration with the latest graphics drivers version 4901,

I need to know if this problem happens when running dual screen in Clone mode or Extended mode.

Thank you for your time.

Thank you very much. Please let me know how the testing goes as soon as possible as we currently have a number of customers without their systems,

Hi MyComputerSupport,

Thank you for your patience.

I finished this lab today, I did not get same symptoms. When I tested the Intel® NUC with latest graphics drivers and BIOS I was able to open Word, Excel, and Outlook without issues.

If you have the chance to test different video adapter as the one I tried below:

Thanks for that Allan, moving one of our clients from the USB-C to VGA adaptor to the HDMI output (this client is only using one monitor) seems to have no issues. It sounds like it may be a bug between the brand of adaptor we are using and the NUC's. We have tried replacing the adaptors and still the same issue. I will try and get hold of a different brand and will let you know how it goes.

Thanks for your help!
