Intel NUC NUC8I7BEH2 never fails to destroy my windows after updates

I've bought the above NUC for my SO last april as they required a home office place. I thought it would be hassle free but now I'm pretty much at my wits end.

Every time either the NUC or Windows 10 does an significant update through their respective tools I can just book 2h for a reinstall of windows from USB. Every time, now again with the latest windows update.

This time the whole network stack of windows had access denied errors. "Resetting" windows for reinstallation fails because of winload.efi bluescreen and 0xc0000225. Disabled secure boot, loaded default settings, still the same error.

Once windows is in this state there is no saving grace. Repaired permissions through regedit, tried to fiddle with secure boot, ran sfc, run dkim, updated the bios (which is also ALWAYS a reason to reinstall windows afterwards, because it leads to efi errors every time) as a last resort. Did a reinstall without bitlocker last summer. Did a reinstall with only citrix, chrome and intel update assistant tools in fall. Now that installation failed with the above message again.

Prior to this I checked for updates and only a bios update was found and I had to download another manual update for the GPU to another bug I already forgot because it was not available through the update tools (and the driver was about 2 months old and assumably not ready for the 20H2 update).

Am I just missing the point, some crucial update steps, something never-to-do-on-running-nucs, limitations because this is the worst experience with any desktop device (except acer laptops).

Hi Maria R,

I always use a fresh mirrored USB stick generated by the official tool found at https://www.microsoft.com/de-de/software-download/windows10ISO.

I'll use the tool below next week and provide it, thanks.

Hello NucNotUp,

Thank you for the information.

After checking the report we do not think the issue is related to the NUC itself. The next step we recommend is to check if the SSD you are using is working properly, for this the manufacturers usually provide a tool to perform a diagnostic and test. Please contact the manufacturer for guidance and let us know the outcome.
