Intel NUC X15 LAPKC71E screen freezes

Hi,

I have a brand new laptop Intel NUC X15 (LAPKC71E) with Intel Core i7/16Gb RAM and Nvidia RTX3060. After one week of usage I had a number of crashes=screen freezes almost on a daily basis (forced me to reboot).  Re-installed everything with latest drivers but still keeps freezing after some hours or +/- 1 day of work. See screenshot.

Afer one week trying everything I could think of, I don't know what to do anymore.

- I am running Windows 11 ver 22H2.

- Drivers Nvidia 526.78

- Drivers Intel UHD 27.20.100

Other software: Flstudio and some plugin (Omnisphere)

However, the latest freeze (laptop screen, see screenshot) happened last evening when Flstudio was *not* running.

How to test this further and isolate the problem?

Note: I saw there was an utility called Intel® System Support Utility but it does not seem compatible with Windows 11?

Hhmmm, I am wondering if you have bad RAM. Do you have an alternate set of SODIMM(s) that you could try?

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the tip. Had a crash again yesterday. See better screenshot. At the moment of the crash (see screenshot) the event log had one fatal error on the miniport microsoft wi-fi direct virtual adapter:  "the miniport has failed a power transition to operational power".

Today I did some RAM testing (passmark) for half a day but nothing came out.

Hello, I just saw this problem on the forum in China recently. You need to update the Intel UHD graphic driver to version 30.0.101.1191, and then turn off the automatic driver update of Windows.

My UHD graphics driver is up to date according to Intel's DSA. Version is 27.20 of 03/22/2022.

Intel has not given enough new drivers. Go and try it. You have no better way. Before downloading the driver, you need to uninstall the original driver. You can go to Google to find a way to uninstall. The URL of the new driver is attached below
https://www.intel.sg/content/www/xa/en/download/726609/intel-arc-graphics-windows-dch-driver.html?wapkw=graphics&countrylabel=Asia%20Pacific

Turn off the automatic drivers update of Windows 10 after everything is completed, or your drivers will fall back.

It's windows 11. From V27 to V30 seems unlikely.

look carefully,There are some versions after the word "win11". You will not damage your computer if you reinstall a driver.
my UHD graphics driver is V30,you can open the original post, his is V31

This seems a more reliable source to me:

Intel® Graphics – Windows* DCH Drivers

I see that version 31.01.101.3790 is the one that is compatible with Windows 11 and my CPU (Tiger Lake).

So I understand correctly that on the one hand Intel has UHD drivers, and on the other hand DHC drivers that are kind of overlapping??

Here is what I found from the search engine:
DCH is a driver package proposed by Microsoft to install and run on Win10 based on the Universal Windows Platform (UWP), which is called "Universal Windows Driver".
The DCH driver only contains basic drivers, not utilities and OEM customized components. You need to visit the Microsoft Store to download, or automatically obtain the UWP driver control panel through Windows Update.
The advantage of DCH driver is that the same version of universal driver can be used on different hardware devices running Win10 system.

Maybe we can understand DCH as a generic driver? The driver you downloaded previously is dedicated to Nuc, but there is a bug, but it is OK to use the general version

Thanks, ok, I understand. I did some research for my kit (LAPKC71E) and found this page:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/649904/intel-nuc-x15-laptop-kit-lapkcx1x-driver-pack.html

and only download the 2nd package to update my GFX driver (31.0.101..). All the rest is working anyway.

I tried it and after unpacking I tried the installer but I am not sure if hitting the start button is a good idea?

Should I not first uninstall the existing UHD driver (device manager / uninstall?) or is it safe to start this installer so that it will hopefully replace the existing driver?

Hello joic,

If I may jump into the conversation, I would like to add the following:

Regarding your questions. You can safely do both installation processes. However, if you are whiling to uninstall the graphics driver, I would recommend you process the clean driver installation process. Sometimes corrupted files from previous installations of drivers can linger on a system which can cause driver updates to not work as expected. Doing a clean install of the software/drivers for any hardware can help to fix specific issues that can be associated so any additional software that might be causing malfunction. It is important to mention that you must install both the Intel and NVIDIA graphics drivers for the Intel NUC X15 Laptop Kit to function correctly.

Also, for this type of issue, you should take into consideration installing the latest BIOS version available for your unit. Currently, the latest BIOS for the Intel® NUC X15 Laptop Kit - LAPKC71E is the 0042. Take a look at our article "BIOS Update and Recovery Instructions for Intel® NUC Laptop Kits with the Aptio® V UEFI Firmware BIOS Core" to have more information about different installation processes with their own steps.

Thanks., all clear.  A few remarks:

The laptop has now been running continuously for 2 days without any freezes.

- I have already installed the latest BIOS (0042)

- My Nvidia driver is up-to-date (31.0.15.2698)

After installation of the DCH driver (the generic one in thelink above), how do I prevent Windows update from re-installing the UHD graphics driver later on?

Hello joic,

Thanks for your reply.

I am glad to hear that the issue seems to be now solved. However, I would like to keep this thread open for a few days, for you to check your system and confirm that it is running as expected.

hey bro,Maybe you should try using Google more often to get what you want. I'm sure it's easy to find. For example, you can search for "How to turn off automatic updates for windows10 driver". For most drivers, maintaining the old version for a period of time does not affect the experience, and sometimes the old version is more stable. If you need playing games, just go to Nvidia's website and look for the latest drivers for your graphics card

hi ,jean
Please allow me to raise irrelevant issues here. Did you know that the next update to the console in the nuc x15 will allow users to have more control over the fans?
