Hi!

While the processor has the ability to directly perform I/O in HDMI format, this is limited to HDMI 1.4 and thus there is no support for HDR in this case. What is done in the NUCs is to instead perform I/O in DisplayPort 1.2 format and to use a separate LSPcon IC to convert to HDMI 2.0 format.
In the case of the USB-C connector, when not using Thunderbolt communications, it is a second DisplayPort 1.2 I/O channel that is made available at this connector. In this case, you are using some sort of dongle to convert to HDMI format - and it is the LSPcon IC inside this dongle that is performing the DP<-->HDMI conversion - and supporting (or not) the HDR capability. You might want to try another dongle.
I have independently verified HDR support on the BE NUC, but, like you, only via the HDMI connector. Unfortunately, I am a long way from home right now, so cannot do any testing of this capability myself. I am hoping that Intel Customer Support is watching this conversation and can test this capability. Obviously, the best result would be to see the compatibility tables updated with this information...
Hope this helps,

HWe00, Thank you for posting in the Intel® Communities Support.
In order for us to provide the most accurate assistance, we just wanted to confirm a few details about your system:
What is the model of the monitor/TV?
Are you using some type of adapters, dongles or converters to attach the Intel® NUC to the monitor/TV? If that is the case, please provide the model of them?
Please provide the SSU report in order for us to verify the status components being used in your platform:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility
To attach the report, once you choose "reply" select the "clip" icon on the lower left corner.

I am using a BenQ EL2870U monitor. On HDMI HDR works, its only not working on the USB-C. So the monitor isn't the problem, i guess.
First i used the "Amazon Basics USB-C to DP Adapter" and the "Amazon Basics DP to HDMI cable". The screen stayed black. So i did a little research, read some comments and decided to buy the "https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B075V5JK36/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1" cable, which i am using right now. Its working well, but that HDR option isn't availble anymore in the displaysettings.
Enclosed the SSU report.

You might want to consider trying a dongle/cable that specifically says that they support HDR. I found these that specifically say that they do:
https://www.amazon.com/pengo-Adapter-Thunderbolt-Compatible-Display/dp/B07SJ69JSF
https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-USB-HDMI-Adapter-HDR/dp/B07N8RFW86
https://www.amazon.com/Moshi-Type-C-Thunderbolt-Compatible-MacBook/dp/B07NN2PSTT
Note: I removed those entries that also included reviews indicating any problems with their HDR support. You will note that all of these survived because they are brand new and have no reviews as yet, so yes, you will be taking a chance. Still, there is good news in that these are brand new and thus haven't been (unsuccessfully) tested with the NUCs.

Hey, no problem; that's why I'm here.
It's good to know that this adapter works. If you got it through Amazon, please put in a review indicating your success - and make sure you mention it working with the NUC in your review! I also hope that Intel Customer Support will update their compatibility lists to include this adapter.
After searching out these adapters (and responding to you), I decided to order the StarTech version of the adapter to use in my own testing. I will update here once it arrives and I have had a chance to test it...

i already wrote a review ;-)
but right now i am giving up... i need a DP adapter, since i found out that 10bit is only working via DP-in on my monitor and not via HDMI .... but i guess there are not any cables/adapters out there, that support this

There are plenty of adapters that perform the USB-C-to-DP conversion. Unfortunately, I cannot test any of these as I do not have any TVs or monitors with DP interfaces. Perhaps Intel (@AlbertR_Intel?) can do this testing.

Thank you both very much for providing that information.
HWe00, it is great to hear that the Pengo adapter is working and now you are able to use the HDR feature in Windows. As you mentioned in order to achieve the 10-bit configuration you will need to use the Display port.
N. Scott Pearson, Sure, I will send the feedback to the proper department reporting that the Pengo adapter is compatible with the Intel® NUC Kit NUC8i5BEH in order to add it in the compatibility list of this specific product.

I can attest that the StarTech.com CDP2HD4K60H USB-C-to-HDMI Adapter with 4K@60Hz and HDR support works as specified. I tested using a BE NUC (a NUC8i7BEH) and a Samsung UN40MU6290 UHD TV. I was able to achieve a full 4K@60Hz connection with HDR enabled and active. I tested first with the (installed) 6709 DCH Driver and then with the (latest) 6912 DCH Driver.
Please add this adapter to the compatibility list for the BE NUCs.

Perfect, it is great to hear that you were able to test and confirm that the CDP2HD4K60H USB-C-to-HDMI adapter is working as expected, achieving a full 4K@60Hz connection with HDR enabled and active when connected to the Intel® NUC Kit NUC8i7BEH.
I will send your feedback to the proper department for them to add the adapter to the list of compatible products for the Intel® BE NUCs.
