As I understand it, EDID specifies what formats a video sink can accept, but the only choices all include RGB 4:4:4 as one of the options; it appears that, whatever is specified in the EDID, the NUC prefers to output RGB 4:4:4. Is there any way to override this choice (e.g., from settings in Windows, modifications to graphics driver, some other software means, etc.)?

Thank you for the quick reply. We are using the NUC7i7DN, with Windows 10, connecting to the 40 pin eDP, directly to a MegaChips STDP4020 DisplayPort receiver our own board; in our configuration, it needs to have YCbCr 4:2:2 (20 bits) coming into the MegaChips part. I hope this helps...

Thank you again for the update. I'm afraid I'm still a little confused; the pages you refer to only speak of YUV444 or YUV420 in conjunction with 4k (2160p) video, and the rest of the discussion is about deep color. Strictly speaking (I'm afraid I didn't mention this earlier), we are only dealing with video up to 1080p60, and the deep color capability isn't really necessary. The MegaChips part translates to parallel video, which we then feed to a Gennum 3G-SDI transmitter (produces SDI output from parallel video), hence the need to have the data in YUV442 (20 bits or not, 16 would be fine and we could just pad the bottom 2 LSBs with 0) -- does this perhaps change anything in the analysis, or is there just no 422 at all in any form? It would seem likely to us that, if the NUC could produce 420, it isn't clear why 422 isn't an option as well -- unless somehow it's related specifically to 4k / deep color, perhaps bandwidth considerations, etc. Maybe we're grasping at straws here, but we're a bit desperate at the moment... Sorry for the confusion.

Again, just for clarity...1080p60 8bpc (16 bpp in YUV422) is just fine for us in this application. We're under the gun to begin shipping this product quite soon; of course with more time we could redesign our interface board, but for now, the ability to get YUV422 from the NUC seems pretty much our only hope. Also, just to make sure, does using the eDP output from the NUC (as mentioned) provide any other hope, or impose any other restrictions?

Thanks for the confirmation (although as I understand it there may be other NUCs which use other than Intel Graphic drivers). In any case, we have gone ahead with plans to redesign our interface board to take care of the situation, having no other good choices. We do appreciate the answers (from both you and Alberto).
