Missing RNDIS drivers in win 10 update

Hi!

Some customers of mine are using intel NUC NUC5i5RYKs with win 10 on them. They connect these NUCs to our product (essentially a linux machine) via USB to provide a network interface between the NUC and our product. RNDIS drivers are needed on the windows machine to make this work.

One of their NUCs has the" build 2004" windows 10 update on it, another has not yet been updated.

The updated machine seems to be missing drivers for the "Remote NDIS compatible device".

On the non-updated machine we can choose this driver from a list (of drivers available on the machine, presented via the device manager) when we plug in an RNDIS usb gadget (this gadget is our product). On the updated machine, the driver doesn't appear in the list.

The driver has been available on windows releases for years, and until now we've not had trouble finding it preinstalled.

I have asked Microsoft about this (two identical computers, only difference is the windows update- seems pretty obvious that they have changed something). BUT they suggest that I ask Intel.

Is this driver (remote NDIS compatible device) available for download here? I have searched in the downloads page but not found anything specific to RNDIS.

I'm facing the same problem with my UDOO NEO (X86 & ARM Arduino Mini PC) and Window 10 after may2020 update.

Basically I can't see my board as network device anymore and I can't ssh into it or flashing Arduino sketch if plugged via usb.

I can't find any reason why they removed the driver support though...

Did you find any solution in the meanwhile?

On a machine that has not had the update and thus still has this RNDIS driver, who does it say is the author?

Hi @n_scott_pearson , ok that's a workaround but I don't think that keeping an outdated Window version can be a long-term solution Even using linux is a short-term workaround, but I'm annoyed that Microsoft/Intel removed the support of many IoT boards like mine or @MarkTz 's. 
I haven't read any changelog about RNDIS obsolescence, that's why I'm still thinking they stopped working for some incompatibility bug introduced in newer version.

No! You missed my point. I am not talking about a workaround; I want to know who owns this driver. If it's Intel, I can perhaps investigate further (unfortunately, if it's Microsoft, well, that's a black hole).

Oops, never mind. I just found reference indicating this is a Microsoft driver. I couldn't find any notification of the feature being EOLed, however.

Oh sorry for the misunderstanding. I'm afraid the owner is Microsoft itself (even according to the driver list when you manually select it during driver setup).
It's still a mistery why they decided to remove all RNDIS Gadgets support. I guess @MarkTz was trying to drive Intel to request Microsoft a patch to let their gadget to work again
