NUC 10i7fnk does not recognize Samsung P981a 2TB nvme disk

Hi

I bought 2TB Samsung P981a nvme disk (OEM for 970EVO) wanting to install it into the NUC where previously 1TB Samsung P981a drive was installed. To my surprise, the NUC 10i7fnk2 is unable to recognize the drive flagging M2 drive as Not Installed with vendor id FFFF:FFFF.

I tested the same drive on i7-8770 system with Gigabyte MB based on intel H370 chipset. The 2TB drive is seamlessly recognized and is fully operational.

Any help?

Cheers

Michel

P.S. I'm adding the photos of the drive and the Storage page of the BIOS

Have you tried simply reseating it?

Hi Scott

Yep, several times. Also, i have P981a in 1Tb and 512Gb capacity. All of them work nicely with the NUC. Looks to be either BIOS or power design issue?

Unless it is ridiculously power hungry - which I doubt since other 2TB SSDs work - I don't think it is a power issue. I don't know if Intel has one to look into why it isn't working; I will ask (but they likely won't respond until Monday).

Hello @msperanski

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities. We are checking this thread and we would like to know if you need further assistance.

We recommend reviewing the steps in this article What To Do When an M.2 or 2.5" SSD Isn't Recognized as a Boot Drive by an Intel® NUC and if the behavior persists, please let us know and also please confirm the BIOS version running in the system.

Hi

Sorry for delay. The PM981a 2TB doesn't work in NUC 10i7fnk no matter what I tried. I bought a Sabrent 2TB nvme SSD which was immediately recognized and works without a problem in the system. Given that, my problem with PM981a looks really either as power issue or BIOS incompatibility.

Cheers

Michel
