NUC 11 SOMETIMES(not all the time) don't fully shut down, blue light stays on.

NUC model is NUC11PAH.

Currently is running sata SSD windows 10 64bit build 1809

BIos version is PATGL357.0041

Fast boot is disabled.

CIR is disabled.

When the system is turned off, the PC sometimes does not fully shut down, the blue light will stay on forever not going into G3 state. After holding down the power button next, the PC will only fully turn off.

Power settings, fast start-up, sleep, hibernate are all turned off.

Tried installing other version of Windows, same issue.

Is it something wrong with the batch of NUC? I have a batch of same model NUC with a Bios version PATGL357.0035 that does not seem to have this problem.

Hello SeijiLee,

Thank you for posting on the Intel communities. In order to have a better understanding of the issue, please share with us the following information:

  1. Was it working before?
  2. When did the issue start happening?

Also, please download and install the Intel System Support Utility (Intel SSU):

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility-for-Windows-

Open the application and select "Everything" click on "Scan" to see the system and device information. By default, Intel SSU will take you to the "Summary View". Click on the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".

Click on "Next", save the report and attach it to your response.

Hi Josue,

1. It is a brand new barebone set. I have a previous batch(same model) but with the bios PATGL357.0035 and it works fine.

2. It happens immediately after installation of windows and connecting to the internet.

let me install intel system support utility because I normally only install the drivers I need.

Thank you.

Hi @SeijiLee

You didn't selected "Everything" before SSU scan. So, run it again.

Hi Leon,

Thanks for the clarify, it seems like some settings that I had turn off in the bios might be causing the issue or conflicting with the windows settings. A quick bios reset and the NUC can shut down fully properly.

Thanks,

Seiji

Sorry for the late replies, I had also ask intel customer service hotline and they told me my units could be faulty. thanks for the help.

Hi all, I have the same problem as described in this thread. My NUC 11 SOMETIMES don't fully shut down, and blue light stays on.  There seems to be a pattern with this issue.  Whenever I boot up after a full power reset, the NUC will go into hibernate or sleep without problems, however, the very next time, it won't fully shut down and the blue light will stay on.  I find that the only way to reset the NUC is to pull the power supply and restart the NUC in order that I can use it again.

Last night I did a full BIOS and driver update, but this has not fixed the issue.  My system details are as enclosed in the photo NUC system.jpg.

Is there a fix for this issue or how do I go about fixing it as it is starting to annoy me

Hi Terry,

In the end, Intel confirm with me that its their hardware faulty. It happen to a specific batch (I think) as I ordered 10 units and all of them are facing the same problem. Intel offered me a refund which I did not take up as I need the PC urgently. They also allow me to trade for the 10gen model as 11gen is affected heavily by chip shortage which I did not agree as well because there is noticeable performance difference. BIOS and driver updates did not solve the issue for me as well.

My usage requires the NUC to turn on and off by itself everyday but without the NUC fully shutting down, the RTC alarm in the BIOS cant kick in to boot the PC. In the end I just use a power timer to cut off the power after initiating a shutdown to simulate the "full shutdown".

Seiji, is there a published statement from Intel on the issue?  I had a NUC 11 i7 performance barebones that had all kinds of issues like this.  (I did return it and made another brand selection).  It just seemed to me from all the issues in this board that the NUC 11s have some serious either design or manufacturing issues.  Any info of batch numbers of serial numbers would be appreciated.

Hi BodhiOne,

I do not know whether there is any official statement from intel but what they told me is that there is some hardware issues.

I had previously bought 6 units of NUC11PAHi3 and they did not have this issue, their version number is M11791-303 with a manufacturing date of 29MAY2021.

This 10 units of PAHi3 that seem to have problems is manufactured on 17DEC2021 with a version number of M11791-306.

My next batch of 5 is actually i5 models and they don't seems to have those problems. They are manufactured on 12FEB2022 and the version number is M15533-306.

Don't quote me on this but maybe the ones with issues are manufactured on 17 December 2021?

You are a life saver, I have been banging my head against a brick wall on this. I have 5 units all have the same problem.

the latest one I bought was Version#  M11791-306   DATE = 07FEB2022    PAHi3

The other units are M11791-304   DATE=062021

All do the same so add that to the list.

This is a problem with the graphics drivers. Get not the lates but second to latest driver kit and install it and your problems will be solved.

Believe me I have tried alot of the fixes. It looks like nothing is going to fix these particular batch's of NUC's.

I am going down the replacement path. I am working with my distributor at  the moment to RA them. I will just have to get a credit and get some later models. At least the price is the same for newer Gen11 NUCs with same specs, just a  later batch.

I will update once I get new models.

Hi GlennStasse,

I tried multiple types of drivers back then and they first seems to work but after a while the same problem came back. I guess i will give the latest drivers a try.

Just an update, I further bought another 27 units of i3 NUC Pro, the obvious difference is that it comes in a brown cardboard box and it has an expansion slot.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/docs/boards-kits/nuc/nuc-11-pro-mini-pc-kits-and-boards-brief.html

I had tested one unit for more than 2 weeks and it did not have this issue. I will test the rest when I have time.

I was also given a demo Intel NUC element for testing and guess what, it has this same issue of not fully shutting down.

https://wpipromo.com/intel-nuc-element/

I guess the power house of XE graphics may had given them more problems? (Don't quote me on this)

Seiji

Seiji,

Any update on the units that had newer production dates?  Curious if after more use they have shown the same issues.

This is all on another thread.  But we have updated all NUCS to bios 0046.

Then used the Intel® Graphics Driver 31.0.101.3222/31.0.101.2111   ( For Windows 10 and Windows 11)

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19344/738230/intel-graphics-windows-dch-drivers.html

So far been good.

Hi pgrand,

I have another 19 unit of i5 NUC Pro,

haven't tested them yet, but from the looks of further testing the i3 NUC PRO, there isn't any problem.

Seiji
