NUC 12 Extreme(Dragon Canyon) + new 13th Gen Intel CPU?

I've noticed that Intel released a new BIOS(version 1258, dated 09/01/2022) for NUC 12 Extreme on the 12th September so I flashed straight away.

I assume this BIOS to enable the support for the new 13th gen Intel processors for the Z690 motherboard on Dragon Canyon, but can someone please verify this?

I've had the NUC 12 Extreme for about a month and I really love it so far, but obviously I'd prefer to upgrade processor from i9 12900(non K) to 13900 or 13900T etc if possible.

Thanks

Just so you understand, the BIOS identifier provides target, version and build date and time information. Yours is showing EDADL579.0055.2022.0901.1258, which means it is version 55 of the EDADL579 BIOS and that this version of the BIOS was built on September 1st, 2022 at 12:58.

I am unsure what you based your assumption on, but I see nothing in the BIOS Release Notes or TPS document that would indicate that support for 13th gen processors is present. ICS can follow-up and see if this is (or will become) a possibility.

Gintama69, Thank you for posting in the Intel® Communities Support.

Since our Intel® compatibility tool does not show any information about this topic:
https://compatibleproducts.intel.com/ProductDetails?activeModule=Intel%C2%AE%20NUC%20Elements&prdName=NUC12EDBi9

I will do further research to try to confirm if the Intel® NUC 12 Extreme Compute Element - NUC12EDBi9 will support the Intel® 12th gen processors. As soon as I get any updates, I will post all of them on this thread.

Any questions, please let me know.

Hello Gintama69, I just received an update on this matter.

After reviewing the case, it is important to mention that for this specific model of Intel® NUC, since the processor is being socketed, it cannot/should not be replaced. The Intel® NUC 12 Extreme Compute Element - NUC12EDBi9 came in 2 versions, i7 and i9, and the processors should not be changed despite being compatible.

That’s pretty F’ed up that a machine that cost a pretty penny with a socketed processor that INTEL built wouldn’t support the next gen INTEL processor, why the f even socket it if you can’t change it. That’s the only reason I bought the **bleep** thing, and I bought a 13900k as soon as it was released just to find out intel doesn’t support intel Holy **bleep** are you telling me that intel doesn’t support intel. They just **bleep** on their own product… Thanks Steve!!!

Is this case closed? I hope not..

May I please ask the following:

1) File a feature request for NUC team to release a BIOS that will support 13th gen.

1a) 13th gen and 12th gen have the same LGA1700 and comparable feature-set. Other motherboard vendors selling the Z690 chipset already released BIOS upgrades to support 13th gen, so I suppose this should be possible for the NUC 12 Extreme motherboard as well. Besides, you have a socket (as opposed to fused on the board) on the motherboard. Sockets are meant to make upgrades friendly.

Thanks,
/M
