NUC 12 Pro Heat Sink Replacement / Application Guide, Fanless cases

I did a quick search and didn't see anything in the past couple of years.

We have an end-goal to integrate a NUC computer into a sealed fanless unit with large heat sinks.

We are looking for documentation to support this application.

At the least, the stock heat sink includes thermal grease and two spring bars on the contact plate with four screws labeled 1, 2, 3, and 4. We suspect an installation guide exists which specifies torqueing procedure as well as specifies thermal grease product to use for this application.

We'd like this information as well as any other information to support safely integrating this to the fanless unit, and also just to reassemble our test units correctly.

Can you point us towards appropriate documentation?

Thank you

Hello SC5,

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities. I understand that you have some questions about your NUC 12.

In order to better assist you, please provide the following:

1. What is the brand and model name of your NUC?

2. Do you have any documentation or pictures of the fanless unit where you want to install the NUC?

3. Can you provide more details about the way that you want to install the NUC?

Thanks Deivid.

1. What is the brand and model name of your NUC?

We're using NUC12WSKi7 sold by Simply NUC

2. Do you have any documentation or pictures of the fanless unit where you want to install the NUC?

We're designing a custom enclosure which will include additional instrumentation electronics. It is not currently designed; we are currently designing the prototype and looking for application guidance.

3. Can you provide more details about the way that you want to install the NUC?

The custom enclosure will seal the NUC and additional instrumentation electronics. In the sealed enclosure, NUC ports will be connected to military-style waterproof connectors which will be installed into the walls of the enclosure ("panel-mount). The enclosure will have significant fins to sink heat into the air on the outside of the enclosure. The NUC motherboard will be fastened to mounting points on the interior of the enclosure with a heat-spreading block protruding to contact the processor die. The NUC mounting will include springs to promote flat contact between the processor die and the contact face of the heat spreading block.

We're looking for guidance on..

-contact pressure to processor die

-recommended contact geometry

-recommended thermal grease/paste product or specifications
