NUC 7i3 5.1 and 7.1 in Windows

Hi,

I noticed over the weekend that my sound in Windows has an issue. My only options available via windows 10 in sound output are Stereo and Dolby Atmos as seen in the sound options.

I am pretty sure at some point I had both 5.1 and 7.1 available also.

If I were a betting man I would say that this changed once I installed the Dolby Access app to try to get Dolby Atmos streaming in Netflix working. But this doesn't work anyway.

Is anyone else having this experience with 5.1 and 7.1 not available?

Playing back local media using k lite codecs or Kodi is fine.

Perfect, excellent, no problem at all, go ahead and do the tests and once you get the chance, please let us know the results.

Hi,

So I had a close read of this guide and just have one query before I try it.

Guide suggests that problem is with regards to EDID data mismatch between TV/AVR/HTPC which is a reasonable guess I think.

But, the guide is about hardcoding or overriding the settings on the HTPC.

Is there not a way to do this properly from the AVR/TV/HTPC instead of hardcoding it this way?

Maybe even refreshing the EDID read or something?

Hi B_Tank88,

I am not aware of any way to properly "refresh" the EDID data and I would agree that following the Surround Sound Options 5.1 or 7.1 Aren't Selectable in Windows* 10 may look like that we are "hardcoding" the EDID data but it is more like making sure that the devices you have connected are properly sharing and recognizing their capabilities.

Did you have a chance to try this recommendation already?

Ronny G

I noticed some lime updates from windows. Try to uninstall the update. Of course I don't really know how they reinstall them if you remove them. That's not why I decided to comment. The reason the Atmos is not working may be because you are not yousing the headphone jack. Or not yousing the optical jack.

I have just managed to get around to trying this, unfortunately no success.

The modified EDID file results in no sound output. There is an X on the speaker icon on taskbar and sound format is specified as UNKNOWN. I did this procedure twice.

Fortunately I was able to recover it back to stereo by using the reset EDID option in custom resolution editor .exe file we created.
