Hello, everyone,
I hope I'm in the right place.
I want to swap my old desktop PC for a NUC 8 and I'm not sure which one to take.
The PC is mainly used for surfing, office tasks, music and video streaming. But for this I have to unpack large files from work regularly, which should be done relatively fast.
I should use 16 GB Ram, a Samsung NVME and a Samsung SSD.
I'm hesitating between the i3 and the i5. Should I rather use the i5 for the archives or can the i3 do it easily.
Greetings
Frank

Wow, there are a number of NUC8's available. Some, will not give you the memory want, like the NUC8i5INH, so be careful when selecting.
I personally setup a NUC8i7BEH for a friend, which has worked out quite well.
I am partial to the NUC8i7HNK, but that is a good bit above what you are looking for,
If I were you, I would try the NUC8i5BEH. However, you should look at each for memory, SSD, nvme, the 2.5" capability in the hiigh/tall models, etc.

I hesitate between NUC8I3BEH and NUC8i5BEH.
Should be as quiet as possible in daily operation, of course.

The NUC8i5BEH would be a good choice.

Is the i3 too slow with only 2 cores?
What about the noise on the i5?

You can compare both NUCs here:
https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/compare.html?productIds=126150,126148
And, you can compare both processors here:

On the NUC8i7BEH that I did for a friend's desktop replacement, I heard no noise. Mind you now, I have a hearing problem, but I did have my hearing aids on. My friend said she heard nothing from the NUC.

By the way, the NUC8i7BEH won the Best Compact Desktop of the year award:
