I am considering to try out a Hades Canyon i7 Vega NUC kit, and would like get some opinions on the following configuration:
- 16 GB of DDR4 2400 MHz SDRAM
- Primary storage: Intel Optane P900 280 GB
- Secondary storage: External 4TB USB 3.1 drive
The external storage is really for VM images, large files or database content that is not latency/performance sensitive, and as a backup device of the primary drive.
The use cases range from running a few virtual machines for software demonstrations (that can all fit on the primary drive) to occasional gaming. I also want to try out the VR capabilities in due time.
Is this a good high-performance configuration, or should I consider an all M2.NVMe SSD drive option instead?
Thanks, Petri

The Intel Optane P900 280 GB has U.2 15mm or HHHL (CEM3.0) form factor. The NUC8i7HVK has two M.2 slots. I don't see how you can use this Intel drive. In my opinion, you should consider M.2 NVMe SSD as primary system drive.
