Hi everyone,
I bought a NUC10i7FNH a week ago and I have two problems. The Operating system is a fresh installation of Windows 10 Pro. I installed 32GB DDR4 2666 and 1 TB NVMe SSD on the m.2 port.
The first one is the chipset driver. Every time I try to install the chipset driver the NUC freezes. Only chance to reset is to plug out the power wire. I downloaded the driver from the intel driver page. I also tried to install the driver in the safe mode from Windows, it ends withe error description “unknown error”.
The second problem is about thunderbolt 3. I want to use my eGPU setup (Razer Core X and RX 5700 XT) with the NUC. When the NUC boots up, everything looks grate. When I try to install the thunderbolt legacy driver the device disappeared from device manager and the USB 3.1 Host Controller get an attention sign. If I used the DCH driver from intel and the thunderbolt app from the Microsoft Store, my eGPU Case displayed in the thunderbolt app. After it, I tried to install the display driver of the RX 5700 XT, while installing the display driver the thunderbolt port disappears completely from the system and the driver installation ends up with an Error. After a reboot, the thunderbolt port also got an attention sign in the device manager. The eGPU setup works fine without any erros on my Razer Blade Stealth.
I hope you can help me, I don't want to send back my NUC
Best Regards
Markus

Hi MrksSchn,
I am currently looking into this report and I have a couple of additional questions I need your help with, see below:
- With the eGPU attached to the NUC. Can you please try connecting the display to the NUC (not to the eGPU) and load the drivers and check again on the device manager?
- If you get the drivers to install, can you please connect the display to the eGPU and see if it works properly?
- Is the Chipset installation related issue happening even if the eGPU is not attached to the system?
Thanks,
Ronny G

I have exactly the same issues. The eGPU is working fine with my Dell XPS Laptop, but flakey as hell on the NUC - same model as you! I assume Thunderbolt driver issues.

Hi everyone,
I have to apologize because of the delay in getting back to this community, I have been doing some research but not having the eGPU in-house testing makes it very difficult.
Unfortunately, the only recommendation I have at this point would be to contact the eGPU manufacturer and check for any tip or suggestion when combining this eGPU with a NUC system.

I have the same issue, just purchased the NUC10i7FNH and have a Razer Core X eGPU with Geforce RTX 2060.
With the eGPU plugged in you will hear the fans of the video card kick in and the screen go black as if it was unplugged/plugged back in. Sometimes it happens after 30 seconds, sometimes after 30 minutes, very inconsistent. I've tried everything under the sun, DCH drivers, Non-DCH drivers, modifying the BIOS power settings, modifying windows power settings, updating registry values for TDR.
without the eGPU there are no issues with video or freezing.
I notice with eGPU plugged in I am getting this in error in event viewer right before it resets itself ... 6_IMAGE_nvlddmkm.sys .. I also have a lot of ESENT errors about Access being denied to DLL's in windows system folder.
EDIT: this is with a fresh windows installation too as the NUC was received yesterday with new SSD's for storage

I have exactly the same issues. I think one of the Intel support guys mentioned that they have gone out and sourced the Razer eGPU and will try to fault find now they have the equipment.

Hi everyone,
I appreciate all comments and reports regarding this issue as well as your patience. We have been looking at this but unfortunately, I don't have any recommendations at this point.
We are trying to allocate internal resources to do some more digging and debugging but this may take extra time and I cannot promise any resolution at this moment.
I am tracking all eGPU compatibility related cases in order to provide details to the product team for further debugging and I will get back to this community post as soon as I hear from them.
I would like to be of much help to you but for now, this is all I got.
Regards,
Ronny G
