NUC11BTMi9 Beast Canyon RAID 1

Just so I’m clear. If using 2 SSD’s in raid-1.
I have to install the OS on the compute element Gen 4 location & the backup ssd on a gen3 within the compute element.
I cannot install the backup in the mainframe Gen 4 slot (bottom door of case) ?
Indeed this is the scenario, will the main OS ssd only perform to Gen 3 specifications/speed ?

Hello David,
You can close this ticket out.
I figured it out. Yes you can setup raid 1. With one NMVe SSD in the NUC element gen4 slot & the mirror drive in the baseboard Gen4 slot located on the bottom of the nuc chassis.
Thanks for your time.

Hello Amphi,

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

In order to better assist you, please provide the following:

1. Are you planning to create a RAID 1?

2. Are you using or interested in using a specific SSD brand? If so, what is the model of the SSD?

3. Is this the first time that you try to create a RAID?

Hello thank you for your time..
1. Yes plan is to have Raid-1 configuration. This is a fresh build.
2. Using two 1TB Samsung 980 PRO PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD
Q. Is this the 1st time that you try to create an array? A. Yes on this PC. I Have done older HDD Raid-1 in the past.
I had planned on using the Slot-3 Gen-4 on the compute element and the Baseboard bottom mounted M.2 slot.
Will this configuration work ?

Hello Amphi,

I am still investigating this inquiry, however, I would like to confirm the following information first:

1. Are you using only two drives (NMVe)?

2. Where is the OS installed? on a separate drive? or on the same RAID 1?

3. Are you looking to get the same performance from Gen 4 to the Gen3 drive?

Best regards,

1. Yes two NMVe drives
2. Will install OS on nuc element gen4 slot & the mirror on the baseboard gen4 slot located on the bottom of the NUC11BTMi9 chassis.
3. I’m looking to get Gen 4 performance from both drive.
4. Just unsure if you can configure raid with a drive on the nuc element & one on the nuc baseboard. Or if they both have to reside on the nuc element ?
