How can I get the NUC11PAHi5 Beta BIOS?

We have Version 43 that was pulled and neither are working well.

Hello @tstob1

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

In order to understand better this request, could you please provide more details on why you are looking to try a "BETA BIOS"? Do you mean you are having issues with both BIOS version 0042 and 0043? If yes, what specific issues are you experiencing?

Also, how many Intel® NUCs do you have affected by the behavior/issues?

Finally, please run the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) and provide us with the report to gather more details about the system:

  • Download the Intel® SSU and save the application on your computer
  • Open the application, check the "Everything" checkbox, and click "Scan" to see the system and device information. The Intel® SSU defaults to the "Summary View" on the output screen following the scan. Click the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".
  • To save your scan, click Next and click Save.
  • Once you have saved the file (.txt file), please attach it to your reply.

To upload and attach a file, use the "Drag and drop here or browse files to attach" option below the response textbox.

how could I be having issues with "both" 0042 and 0043? I upgraded 2 NUCs to 0043 and not able to go back to 0042. now Intel has pulled 0043. both NUCs freeze all the time, have to hold the power button to shutdown and restart.

I am not in front of either one they were built for relatives. when I get to them I can send the log.

Hello tstob1

Thank you for your response.

We understand that you will need some time to get the Intel® SSU reports. No problem, please take your time.

Also, once you reply back with the logs, could you please also provide more details about the issue?

When you said "both NUCs freeze all the time, have to hold the power button to shutdown and restart", does the freezing issue occurs at any particular time or when using any specific app or with specific tasks/workloads?

By any chance is the issue similar to the one described in this article? Intel® NUC11PA and NUC11TN Power LED Light Still On after Shutting Down the Device

Please elaborate more on the behavior/scenario when the freeze occurs.

PS: "how could I be having issues with "both" 0042 and 0043?"

When you said in your first post "We have Version 43 that was pulled and neither are working well" I thought you mean you had the issues "with more than one BIOS version" (e.g.: 0043 and I assumed also before with the previous one... 0042) instead of meaning having issues with "more than one NUC"... Now it is clear this is regarding issues on 2 NUCs with BIOS version 0043. Thanks for the clarification and we apologize for the misunderstanding.

I have 2 11th Gen NUCs that are not working well. I do not use them, they belong to family and friends, I set both NUCs up and updated to Version 0043, now that version has been pulled.

what I am hearing from both people is they tend to freeze or not shut down correctly. they have to hold the power button in often to shutdown or come out of a freeze. Sorry I can't get the SSU file at the moment. I was just hoping to maybe try the beta BIOS on them since still no 0044 version.

I'll try to get the SSU file if it is helpful.

Thank you

Hello tstob1

Thank you for your response.

We will check internally regarding the possibility/availability of a BETA BIOS and we will be posting back as soon as more details are available.

However, the behavior/issue that you described looks similar to the ones described in these articles:

Therefore, in the meantime, we recommend testing with a previous graphics driver: Please install Intel® Graphics DCH Driver version 27.20.100.9466 and then update to version 30.0.101.1069

Note:

If you have issues installing a previous driver version, you may try the steps in this article: Clean Installation of the Intel® Graphics Drivers in Windows*.

Hello tstob1

After reviewing this further, we would like to inform you that we don't have a BETA BIOS capable of addressing the issues you reported. We are working on a fix, and for the "no shutdown issue" the fix may not be a BIOS fix but a Graphics driver solution.

In addition to the previous steps we recommended above, if the systems continue freezing up, you may also check for issues related to memory, overheating, or operating system (OS):

1- Check for the latest Windows updates. Refer to Update Windows*.

2- To discard overheating problems, please refer to the following article: Troubleshooting Overheating or Thermal Issues on Intel® NUC.

3- For memory RAM:

  • Remove and reinstall the memory modules
  • If two memory modules are installed, try one at a time.
  • Try moving the memory module from one slot to the other.
  • Test the RAM using a free testing program like Memtest86+*
  • Try different memory modules you know to be good.
  • If possible, use memory models listed on the compatible components page.

Is it safe to update the graphics driver from 27.xx version to 30.0.101.1660?

I see now there is 30.0.101.1994.

Thank you

Hello tstob1

Thank you for your response.

The information we have is that these two drivers 27.20.100.9466 and 30.0.101.1069 are the ones that have shown success in helping with this issue.

If you are already running any of these two drivers and it is helping to stop the behavior, our recommendation is to stick with that driver (27.20.100.9466 or 30.0.101.1069) and avoid/disregard new driver updates until more information is available since we are still investigating this behavior.

For any other inquiries, please don't hesitate to contact us back.
