NUC11PAHi7 HDD LED on when NUC is powered off

Hi,

I just got a NUC11PAHi7 and have it setup mostly the way I want. There is one annoyance though:

When I power off the NUC (it goes to S5), the HDD LED will go on with a solid RED colour.

I want it to be off, when the NUC is powered off.

I found a whole bunch of settings in the BIOS (and also some in Intel NUC Software Studio) where I can tweak all kinds of things related to the HDD & power LEDS. 

I can turn them off fully, but then they also won't blink when the NUC is on and there is HDD activity.

I cannot seem to find a simple setting that lets met turn the HDD LED off while the NUC is Off/in S5.

Does anybody know if we can somehow set that settings? 

Some additional info: when the NUC is off, the HDD LED is on as a Solid red. So it's not blinking because of HDD activity (there is none). So it's a state separate of HDD activity for the HDD LED.

Hi Jaap,

1. Enter BIOS settings (click on F2 when you will see the Intel NUC logo).

2. Click on Power tab. In the Power tab, click on Secondary Power Settings.

3. In the fourth line below HDD LED, set the Behavior to Normally off, ON when active

4. Click on F10 and confirm changes to save settings and exit from BIOS.

5. If the above will not help, set BIOS to default settings (while in BIOS, click on F9, confirmed by "Y").

Thanks for your reply. The settings were already set like that unfortunately. But those settings apply when the NUC is on, and there is HDD activity. And they do work fine like that: the NUC is on - there is HDD activity, then the HDD light flashes, and if there is no activity, the light is off. 

The issue I am having is that when the NUC is off, then the HDD LED goes on fully (LED style Solid) and stays on. I guess it's an indicator the system is off but has power (or something like that).

I do see settings where I can set different conditions for the HDD LED in S0 states, but, what I want is the change the behaviour of the HDD LED light in S5 state (power-off). When it's at that state I want to Turn Off the HDD LED.

In order to better assist you, please try and provide the following:

1. Update your BIOS.

- file: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/30202/BIOS-Update-PATGL357-

2. Load BIOS to default:

- Press F2 during boot to enter BIOS Setup.

- Press F9 to load defaults.

- Press F10 to save and exit BIOS Setup.

3. Take a picture of the settings at the BIOS, where you were able to change the HDD LEDs.

4. If possible, take a video of the behavior of the NUC/LED.

Hi,

I moved the NUC to another location in my house, and for some reason the HDD led is now no longer On when the NUC is off. So that is what I wanted. No idea why the behaviour of the led changed, but it's fixed.

Probably disconnecting the Power Adapter for some time (there wasn't standby power on the board), fixed this.

Hhmmm, this sounds to me like a ground loop formed. Was there a difference in how the NUC was connected to A/C power at the old location - a different extension cord, power bar or something similar? If so, I might suggest that you discard it for safety's sake.
