NUC12DCMi9 Dragon Canyon LED controls not listed in Intel NUC Software Studio

Found a similar abandoned thread but with Beast Canyon.

Initially, LED controls were listed in Intel NUC Software Studio. I was able to disable the under-glow lighting and leave the skull color cycling.

I experienced the IntelNucSoftwareStudioServiceLogSource error log generation issue that is currently being discussed on the forum in several other threads.

My not so clever idea was to create a Windows to Go installation on a USB SSD that I could install the Intel NUC Software Studio Service and Intel NUC Software Studio on thinking this would allow me to forgo installing the Intel NUC Software Studio Service on my primary internal m.2. My thought was I could boot to the USB SSD when I needed to make any lighting changes and return to my primary m.2 installation for my day-to-day work.

After resolving Secure Boot issues, I am able to successfully boot USB SSDs, however, every time I try Intel NUC Software Studio it only shows Performance Mode and System Monitor, no LEDs. I have tried both Windows 11 Pro and Windows 10 Pro installs. I have tried both NSSServiceInstaller-v1.17.33.0 and Intel_NUC_Software_Studio_Service_MSI_v1.0.0.22.
I have tried both EDADL579 0053 and 0055. I done both updated and done recovery BIOS options. I see no errors or warnings in Device Manager and I have also tried Intel Driver Support Assistant.

Currently, I am back on 0053 and just did a BIOS recovery.

Please help explain what causes LED control to not show in Intel NUC Software Studio and ideas of what to try next.

Thanks!
Mike

iDmiEditWin64.exe /SF DC

Hello Mike020,

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities. I am sorry to know that you are having issues with your Intel® NUC 12 Extreme Kit - NUC12DCMi9.

In order to better assist you, please provide the following:

1. Just to confirm, the issue is that the option to control the LED is missing in the tool, is that right? Or is it that you cannot make changes to the LED but the option shows in the tool?

2. Just to confirm, have you tried installing the tool and the drivers in the same SSD?

3. Can you take pictures of the issue?

Hi Deivid,

Sure thing,

1. Just to confirm, the issue is that the option to control the LED is missing in the tool, is that right? Or is it that you cannot make changes to the LED but the option shows in the tool?

The issue is that the option to control the LED is missing in the tool.

2. Just to confirm, have you tried installing the tool and the drivers in the same SSD?

Yes. I also just removed and reinstalled both the Intel NUC Software Studio Service and Intel NUC Software Studio from the Microsoft Store prior to capturing the picture and posting.

3. Can you take pictures of the issue?

Attached are a screen shot of the “Home” screen and NUC Software Studio version.

Hello Mike020,

Thanks for your patience. In order to continue, I would like to know if you changed any SMBIOS settings. Try to set the BIOS to defaults and report any change to SMBIOS, the Intel NUC Software Studioill check the product family for LED control.

The only bios setting I had changed was setting Cooling -> Fan off capability to Off. I did an F9 load optimized defaults, saved configuration changes, and verified that it did not resolve the issue. Let me know what I can try next.

Thank you,
Mike

@Mike020 If for some reason SMBIOS strings get changed, then LED management might not work.

Can you run iDMIedit tool and dump your SMBIOS strings?

Tool is here https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19504/intel-aptio-v-uefi-firmware-integrator-tools.html

Open an administrator command prompt.

Unzip iDMI tool for Windows.

I had to change directories in the command prompt to get to the correct folder:

cd C:\Users\Administrator\Downloads\iDmiEdit\iDmi-Windows-5.27.03.0004\

Run this command the following in administrator command prompt from the the same folder you extracted it to:

iDmiEditWin64.exe /all

You should see all the fields output on screen.

Please share all of these here, but REMOVE all serial numbers.

Example of my iDMI output on Camden County laptop with Elk Bay compute element below .

Hi Spidey,

This troubleshooting looks very promising. I did not have to remove serial numbers, because nearly all fields came back blank. Here are the results:

HI Spidey,

I followed your instructions and it resolved my LED management issue.

Are you aware of any other issues I could experience with missing SMBIOS information? Should I write any additional fields?

Thank you,
Mike

Hello,

While it was not OP's issue here, it can also be a cable not properly seated on the baseboard, as I explained here in another thread:

https://community.intel.com/t5/Intel-NUCs/Intel-NUC-Software-Studio-quot-The-serial-port-driver-is-not/m-p/1511723/highlight/true#M102239

Kind regards.

Can anyone help me with the smbios correct values for NUC11DBBi7 ?

I just made the changes here in this thread and my control of the leds dissapeared.

I tought that this was to resolve my issue and now I don't know the correct values and my led tab is gone from the intel studio.

In the meantime i found the real issue that a connector was disconnected but now I am in this trouble with the alterated smbios.

Please if anybody knows the right strings let me know
