NUC12DCMv9 and case LEDs

Hi, i wasn't aware the vPro version of the NUC 12 didnt have case LEDs, however the front LED behind the plate is still installed, however the NUC Studio software will not control it, doent even show up to control any LED.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19691/intel-nuc-software-studio-service.html

There was another thread on here that said if the NUC Studio software was installed it would control that LED, i cant find it in the BIOS, we use (at least the front LED) as a name illumination, how do we enable the case LEDS in the vPro NUC12 cases?

I would be correct that the lower side and front LEDs are not installed, however the larger one behind the shield appears to be.

Is this a vPro BIOS issue?  If so i would like to request that LED control is put back in the vPro BIOS and be turned off, allowing it to be turned on for those that require it (we use it to illuminate our company name on sold units).

Hello GRIFFCOMM

We are still working on this matter. However, we would like to know if changes were performed in the BIOS using Intel® Aptio* V UEFI Firmware Integrator Tools. If not, could you please set the BIOS to defaults and try again?

  • Press F2 during boot to enter the BIOS Setup.
  • Press F9 to set defaults.
  • Press F10 to save and exit.

If the BIOS is already set to default, please let us know.

Best regards,

Hi, please see list of actions below:

  • When the system arrived, we reset the BIOS (F9), no LEDs were found in the BIOS then
  • We have uploaded a BIOS boot image (replacing Intels) (i am happy to send your the image and CAP file if you would like this for testing)
  • We have a RAID Group in this system, will resetting the BIOS create a RAID issue or break this RAID so the system will not boot?

Hello GRIFFCOMM

Thank you for your response.

We apologize for the delay in getting back to you. We just got confirmation from the Intel® NUC Product Team that for the Dragon Canyon family (NUC12DC), only non-vPro models support customizable LEDs.

This information will be updated in the Technical Product Specification for the Intel® NUC and will also have a support article created, again, we apologize for the confusion.

Note:

Regarding your inquiry if resetting the BIOS will create a RAID issue, loading defaults will undo the Storage mode changes, so after loading BIOS defaults, it would require just accessing the BIOS one more time before booting to the OS and enable again the RAID or VMD controller mode and it should be fine.

However, since we already confirmed that only non-vPro models support customizable LEDs, you can disregard our previous request (it is no longer needed to try loading defaults).

If you have any other inquiries, please don't hesitate to contact us back.

Hi

Please submit to R&D that access to the LEDs in vPro units would be "good", we use the front panel for branding and backlight the company name (see image from the NUC11 i9 generation case), this is no longer possible with the higher quality vPro unit, making it look worse and nonstandard with the "i" generation cases.  Its ironic that the vPro case does have the LED installed in the front of the case, we however cant access or control it.  This appears to be a very simple BIOS up date to resolve it as the case and baseboard already have LED and control installed.

The LEDs in the feet and above the front USB ports dont seem to be installed though.
