NUC5i3MYBE disable startup beep when pressing powerbutton longer than 1 sec

Hi,

We have +/- 300 NUC5i3MYBE devices with amplifier and speakers.

At boot we hear a very loud beep when we press the powerbutton longer than 1 sec.

So a quick press gives no issues..

Does anyone knows how to disable this beep ? I cannot find any option in the Visual Bios....

any help appreciated

Johan

Hi belgium123: We will do our best to provide the information you are looking for.

In regard to your question, there is no need to press and hold the power key for more that 1 second, you can always do that to access the power button menu as you can see on the following link on page 82:

https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/boardsandkits/NUC5i3MYBE_TechProdSpec.pdf https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/boardsandkits/NUC5i3MYBE_TechProdSpec.pdf

Did you test at least one unit without the Amplifier and Speakers to rule out a possible compatibility issues?

If the problem remains after that, please provide the SSU report from one of the NUCs while the speakers and amplifiers are connected:

belgium123: Thank you very much for providing that information.

We recommend to educate the users to try not to press and hold the power key for more than 1 second since this will bring up the Power Button Menu.

This is expected behavior.

If the customer is using headphones they should hear three beeps when accessing the Power Button Menu.

With speakers, that may be why they are hearing one.

On a side note, I was checking the memory RAM listed in the SSU report provided and I can only find links to Toshiba laptops for the memory.

The proper memory RAM for the Intel® NUC should be:

DDR3L-1333/1600 1.35V SO-DIMM

https://ark.intel.com/products/84863/Intel-NUC-Board-NUC5i3MYBE

Please verify that the customers are using the correct memory RAM quantity and the proper speed and voltage to avoid any possible issues.

Dear,

Thanks for the answer.

Plz note that we do not see "Power Button Menu" on the screen.

We tested with headphones an hear only one beep...

Can the beeps or audible notifications be turned of by a bios update/patch ?

We have around 400 units in the field and a firste case where a person has hearing damage caused by the beep...

So any help appreciated

Johan
