NUC5i5MYHE Intel HD Graphics problem (ESXi passthrough)

Here is Intel NUC in my testing lab and I'm trying passthrough Intel GPU under ESXi 6.5 but it's not working (black screen)

It seems Intel HD turns off if it sees another GPU (VMware SVGA)... right?

So Is there a kind of "Always Enable" option in (HARDWARE) BIOS or Intel Drivers?

As I know any other (modern!) GPU can be successfully passthroughed to virtual machine.

Or... any other solution?

Latest BIOS version, virtualization support enabled:

BTW, only turning off (any) one of two GPUs allows to boot up virtual machine OS in normal (not safe) mode (but works only VMware GPU in fact)

In case of enabling both of GPU system stucks on logo (Windows-7)

I am currently trying to replicate your environment and the issue you are having but I would like to request more information about the configuration you have such as:

• Where ESXi 6.5 is installed?
• Where Windows 7* is installed?
• What OS is running on the VM?
• Is the screenshot from Device Manager taken from the VM or the actual OS running on the Intel® NUC?
• Any other information you consider important to try to replicate this.

If you are running VMware ESXi directly on a host with VT-d enabled, and you enable PCI Passthrough of the video card, there is a chance you can get the host's video card to be usable directly by the guest... but certainly not with Workstation. Workstation simply has no facility to allow "sharing" of a physical graphics adapter between the host and the guest.

So according to this information the configuration I'm trying to run is supported by VMware. What about Intel?

The NUC5i5MYHE has not been tested or validated with ESXi 6.5. It doesn't mean that it won't work but support, validation and driver availability is either limited or non-existence. Here are some basics seps to enable the Host for Video Passthrough (I have not tested this on any NUC as the OS is not validated but it may help):

• Check VT-d is enabled by running the following command on the console, is the name of the module: vtddmar for Intel.
• Using the vSphere Client, connect to VMware* vCenter* and select the host.
• Select the Configuration tab for the host, and click "Advanced Settings". If the host has devices enabled for passthrough, these devices will be listed there.
• To configure passthrough for the Video Adapter, click Configure Passthrough.
• In the "Mark Devices" for Passthrough window, check the box that corresponds to the Video Adapter installed in the host.
• Click OK. The Video Card should now be listed now in the Window on the Advanced settings window.

It looks like VT-d is enabled (kind of formally) but Intel GPU itself does not support working in Passthrough mode.

So Is there a way to force Intel GPU WORK in this mode but not only "support" it?

ESXi 5.5-6.5 (in addition to "Customer-reported" linux distributions) works fine for me (and many other people) in all applications and on various NUC models (except Intel GPU Passthrough of course) but officially confirmed (and tested) support would be nice.

I checked with my next level of support and it seems that there are no plans to validate ESXi Operating System and therefore no plans to validate Passthrough mode either.

I am still checking with the Graphics team but I can't promise anything at this moment.

I would LOVE to get this working too.. I have a few Intel NUC at home as homelab working with VMWare-stuff.. (working as a vmware consultat) Would be perfect to be able to use the HDMI and connect it to a monitor and via a VM..

Also have this problem with NUC7i5BNH, set up with the same steps as above, getting the device installed in windows VM, but the HDMI output is just a black screen. Would love to know if anyone has solved this.
