I purchased my NUC a month ago but I cannot get it working properly.
I mounted a Kingston 4GB PC3L 12800 CL11 204 with (1.35V). The HD is the Samsung SSD 830 EVO (120 GB).
Everything is up to date (BIOS, HDMI firmware, drivers, etc...).
I even changed the RAM, I substituted the NUC, I tried to install Ubuntu (it worked without problem).
Unfortunately with Windows 10 (2017 Fall edition) the system freezes after 10 minutes of functioning. I can still move the mouse and close open windows but I cannot open new ones.
I don't know what to do... do you have any idea?
I'm planning to give back the NUC and buy a different barebone, I'm absolutely unsatisfied.
Hello mattiar87 ,
In my opinion, if your NUC is working with Linux that means that there are no problem with the hardware. Although you didn't given a P/N of your RAM memory (only general description), since it is working with Ubuntu, I'm assuming that is compatible memory (with 4Gbit density - like this one: KVR16LS11/4). I believe that there some thing wrong in Windows 10 installation. Here you will find tutorial how to install Windows 10 (you shall choose the UEFI option): https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-clean-install-windows-10-a.html Windows 10 Forums .
In addition you shall update your BIOS to the latest version and install the drivers downloaded from here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/95062/Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC6CAYH Downloads for Intel® NUC Kit NUC6CAYH
Thanks a lot for your prompt answer lw1948,
I followed the guide but unfortunately the issue has not been solved. The NUC is freezing after 10 minutes (or less) of functioning.
BTW the part number of the RAM is exactly that of your example (KVR16LS11/4)
Try to perform Clean Boot in Windows:https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/41804-perform-clean-boot-windows-10-troubleshoot-software-confli... Windows 10 Forums . In this tutorial you may find instructions how to debug if there is an application that is freezing you task bar. See an example here: https://www.tenforums.com/general-support/62515-freezing-during-normal-operation-questions-about-cle... Windows 10 Forums . If you have Antivirus installed, I'll start from uninstalling antivirus application and trying how Windows is working with Windows Defender - ON.
Sorry for the late reply but it took some time to try all the steps, also because the NUC is not mine but my parents'. Unfortunately also the clean boot did not have any effect. It seems strange to me that I'm the only one having such an issue with Windows Creators fall edition. I think I will send back the product and buy a different one. Furthermore the intel download center seems down and cannot download the last bios update. That's delusional... I will go for an AMD.
